This is why we are observing an increased tempo of operations in the Zaporizhzhia City direction by Russian forces.
There's been an observed increase in fighting in the Zaporizhzhia region especially in the direction of Zaporizhzhia City.
Fighting near Orikhiv
Zaporizhia direction sees extremely fierce fighting. Russian forces continue advancing despite increased enemy counterattacks.
A large gray zone remains near Rozhdestvensky and Vozdizhevka. Russian troops are pushing toward Lyubytsky and Barvinivka, while the enemy tries to reach the Gaichur river.
Omelnik has come under Russian control. Fierce fighting continues in Orikhiv, where the enemy brought fresh forces. Russian groups still enter through Novodanylivka.
Fighting continues for Novoandreyevka. Enemy presence north of Shcherbaky hampers advances from the west. The Stepnogorsk sector remains relatively stable.
Overall, the enemy has pushed Russian units back inside Orikhiv but failed to fully drive them out.

Russian sabotage and reconnaissance forces are active in a few villages directly on the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia City. Zaporizhzhia City remains fully under Ukrainian Control and that's not expected to change through the remainder of this year into Spring 2027.
❗️Information from the ground.
Russian DRG (sabotage and reconnaissance) groups have been reported in the villages of Kushuhum and Balabyne, right on the outskirts of Zaporizhzhia City.
They are equipped with AK-12 rifles and are fluent in Ukrainian, attempting to blend in with the civilian population and the military. There is a risk of repeated DRG infiltrations into this area. It is unknown how many are currently there, but their number is likely small.
Presumably, they moved up the near-unbroken chain of settlements from Prymorske to Malokaterynivka and Kushuhum, using the residential areas as cover from Ukrainian drones, while trying to avoid detection from soldiers operating in the area.
Alerts have already been sent out to Ukrainian units operating in this direction.

Zelenskyy spoke to Kushner and Witkoff by phone this afternoon. No details in this readout but the language used is still remarkable.

A more extensive description from Global News: "A live-fire training exercise hit a gas line or gas well on the base causing an explosion around 4 p.m. MT, multiple Canadian Armed Forces sources told Global News.
