The wales one is a reminder that MRPs from across the industry tell us Labour’s still doing badly against Plaid and SNP, and quite frankly they could lose most of their majority without a single seat lost in England (where they house still expect many losses as polling stands!)
Last night was the Conservatives’ best in a long time: four wins from five contests, three of them gains. That takes them to 29 wins since May’s local elections, more than any other party (Reform 26, Labour 26, Lib Dems 24).

Not an answer, but I remember trying to explain the Liberal Democrat’s penchant for amusing, disturbing and baroque scandals in the 2000s and 2010s to new joiners to our political team who will never have heard of them.
What is the oldest political news story you can remember? For me it's Joe Biden being selected as Obama's VP.

The more you think about the New Statesman's decision to try and compare Sally Rooney to Salman Rushdie, the more abysmally stupid it becomes.
Plus her Japanese translator would have to be murdered, her Italian translator stabbed and her Norwegian publisher shot.

What did conference season actually change? Priya Minhas looks at what the polls reveal about Britain’s fragmented politics, and why connecting with voters may matter more than winning conference season. Read more in our latest Opinium Substack 👇

This whole Alberta independence thing has really passed me by? How did it even get to this point? Purely looking at it on a map it'd be about as mad as if we had a referendum on the East Midlands starting independence proceedings.

What do small businesses need to see from the next Budget? @rcolvile and @OpiniumResearch have the answers 👇
John Healey reportedly wants to help small businesses at the Budget. New polling by @OpiniumResearch for @CPSThinkTank shows they definitely need it! Opinium polled 500 SMEs bosses across the UK. Overwhelmingly, they felt govt wasn't on their side. But help do they need? (1/?)

Second strong conference speech by a party leader. Second traditional party to get a ~3 point jump in the polls. Party conference season doesn't matter, until it does.

Favourite thing I’ve read this week in the @spectator courtesy of @DouglasKMurray : “I try not to be judgemental about this, since I always try to see the best in people, however disgusting they might look.”

Quick thoughts on Kemi speech: - Tories obvs want to frame politics as Tories v Labour, keep your money v take your money - Loads on economy, not much on public services (eg doctors mentioned, not NHS) - Lots of ‘we’ vs Burnham ‘I’ - trying to build sense of party/team (1/2)
