When books are banned, it restricts information and discourages freedom of thought. It also undermines one of the primary functions of education: teaching students how to think for themselves. Let's celebrate the freedom to read! π #WeAreNJEA #BannedBooksWeek

1. Relationships over rules.
2. Check yourself on the assumptions you make about your students. Their lived experiences may be unimaginable to you.
3. Youβre going to make a lot of mistakes. Thatβs part of learning as an educator. Donβt beat yourself upβjust keep at it.
WELCOME TO THE SUMMER OF #SATCHAT
Our Question of the Day:

Please respond, retweet, like & keep the convo going all day.

Educators, I am here to acknowledge that we, as a country, owe you.
We owe you better working conditions, pay, and respect.
Iβm approaching half a century of being a human in this world. (Itβs coming fast.)
I think the most important thing Iβve learned, so far, is to KEEP LEARNING and never assumed youβve figured it all out. You havenβt. And neither have I.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Teachers should not have to spend their own money on school supplies or other things for their students, but 94% of us do. And to add insult to injury, we can only write off up to $300 on our taxes because we all know itβs the educators who take advantage of the tax system.
And thatβs a wrap on my first ISTE conference! Walking away with tons of ideas about ways to bring that #bigPDenergy to NJEA members!
Something Iβve loved at #ISTELive23 is connecting with so many awesome people!
