A student emailed me and asked if they could do their spiral of Pythagoras project in 3D. Puzzled I said yeah. Here’s what they turned in. When you look from birds eye view it lines up with sketch on the wood! I asked her if I could keep it but they understandable want it back.

I’m so proud of our teachers who have tried new things in their class this year. It’s not easy stepping out of our comfort zone… but it's something we all need to do from time to time.

When answers are routinely provided, students learn to sit back and wait until you go over them whole class, instead of trying themselves. Not all problems require whole-class discussion. Using STTS, like Swapmeet, lets students check work in teams rather than whole class.

Today, I am directing every state to prioritize educators for vaccination. We want every educator, school staff member, and child-care worker to receive at least one shot by the end of this month.
It’s time to treat in-person learning like the essential service that it is.

I think it’s a mistake for leaders to be preoccupied with supervision. That sort of focus implies your people are employees who need to be managed rather than professionals who want to be led.

A high school junior stayed on Zoom after my final class today.
He said he “just wanted to do a vibe check on his teachers.”
“Like... you're all checking in on us. But who’s checking in on you?"

You don’t have to be an administrator, grade level chair, or department head to be a leader in you school. Your title doesn’t matter. You just need to care about making it better.
Passion and commitment can transform any culture.
