In 1956 two doctors on a London hospital ward fed overweight patients 1,000 calories a day, changed nothing but what the calories were made of, and the patients eating mostly carbohydrate lost no weight at all.

Every slimming plan in the country rested on one sum. Eat less than you burn and the weight comes off, whatever the food.
So they nailed the sum to the floor. Patients kept on the ward, every meal weighed, water and salt held steady, the scales read every day.
Then they fed them the same 1,000 calories three ways.
90% fat.
90% protein.
90% carbohydrate.
1,000 calories is a starvation ration for a heavy adult. By the sum, every patient on every diet should have been losing steadily.
On the fat, the weight fell fastest. Some of them dropped more than a pound a day.
On the protein, the weight fell.
On the carbohydrate, the same 1,000 calories, the weight sat where it was.
On the fat ration the patients' urine carried a substance that pulled fat out of storage, and their blood filled with ketones, the fuel a body makes from its own fat. On the carbohydrate ration, neither appeared.
Carbohydrate raises insulin, and insulin is the hormone that keeps fat locked in storage. The calories were identical. The lock was not.
Seventy years on, the advice at the surgery is still the sum. Eat less, move more, and choose the low-fat option to make the calories go further.
The low-fat option is the one that stood still on a London hospital ward in 1956.
1,000 calories of carbohydrate kept a heavy patient heavy, and the woman on her fourth slimming club is still being told the problem is her willpower.

What the audio doesn't do. It doesn't prove a plane was where they said it was. ATC audio is ground-based reception. The controller hears a voice on a frequency. That's it. There's no triangulation in the playback, no embedded positional telemetry in the consumer stream.
LiveATC archives radio traffic from tower receivers it captures transmissions, not aircraft. You can key a microphone from anywhere on the correct frequency and sound like a pilot. The system was never designed as forensic proof of physical presence, yet it gets presented that way every single time.

MIT cites the outcome of this investigation as the basis for his removal.
What became clear during the court case was that Knouse routinely used extreme, vulgar, and pornographic language with her student. She would casually describe the state of her vagina and her sexual arousal in graphic terms and made explicit jokes about genitalia, rape, and sex.
These documents are publicly available. MIT was aware of this evidence, yet it continues to claim that Sabatini and his work environment were the problem.

In Colorado, researchers gave breastfed babies puréed beef as their very first solid food instead of the iron-fortified cereal on every weaning chart, and the beef babies grew bigger heads.
Nancy Krebs took 88 babies, breastfed and four months old, and split them at random.
From five months, half were spoon-fed puréed beef. Half got the iron-fortified baby cereal American paediatricians had handed out as first food for generations.
The babies took to the beef just as happily as the cereal.
Between seven and twelve months, the heads of the beef babies grew faster. The amount of zinc and protein a baby took in predicted how much its head grew.
Her team kept going. Breastfed babies given more protein from meat grew longer, without putting on extra fat.
Then they took formula-fed babies and gave half of them meat purée and half of them yoghurt, cheese and whey from five months to a year.
The meat babies climbed up the growth charts for length. The dairy babies slipped down them, and got heavier for their height instead.
At two years old, the difference was still there.
The World Health Organization now says babies should have meat, fish or eggs every day from six months if they can.
The jar on the supermarket shelf still says baby rice.
