September 19 is Powley Day. Great day for conversations about the brilliance of Métis, First Nations and Inuit folks instead of the monarchy. Time to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonialism and how to talk about this in classrooms in culturally safe ways! @UIEC_Tdsb – at Toronto, Ontario
September 19th is Powley Day. Please see metisnation.org/news/septemb… for more info. It’s an important day for Métis people “securing recognition of Métis as a distinct Indigenous peoples within Canada, and helping open the path forward toward full Métis self-government.”

Educators- before you leap into plans in response to the situation in Kamloops. I ask - with whom have you consulted? Have you asked the Indigenous education Department? Have you asked Survivors?

It’s been a heavy weekend. As we start this week I ask that @tdsb educators to engage with @UIEC_Tdsb to ensure that you do this work in culturally safe & trauma-informed ways as to not unintentionally perpetuate colonial violence & harm - this work is not about saving the day

I was reminded today how powerful words are after I wrote a special note to each S (privately) in our Google classroom and one response brought tears to my eyes. We all need reminders of how important we are. Remember that my friends. #wordsmatter #KindnessMatters #humanity

45% of transgender children drop out of school due to traumatic experiences.
2020 was the deadliest year on record for the transgender community.
We all must keep fighting for a world where all people can live safely and authentically.
