Soles Of The Multiverse

A Thousand Years Beneath My Sole The rookie mage had been warned. Every apprentice in the Continental Magic Association whispered the same thing: never touch the staff of Frieren the Slayer without permission. That slender red staff, crowned with its glowing crimson orb, wasn't just a tool—it was an extension of an elf who had lived for over a millennium, who had stared down the Demon King himself and walked away bored. But arrogance is the privilege of youth. The girl—barely twenty, brimming with naive bravado—saw her chance during one of Frieren's rare visits to the Association library. She had dozed off in a sunbeam (as elves do, time meaning nothing to them), her staff leaning carelessly against the table. She reached out, fingers trembling with excitement. Just a quick look. Just to feel what real magic is like. The moment her skin brushed the warm wood, the world lurched. Mana surged like a tidal wave. The floor dropped away—or rather, he dropped, shrinking in an instant until the wooden planks became vast canyons. The table towered like a cliff face. And Frieren... Frieren was no longer petite. She loomed, an indifferent mountain of pale skin, silver hair cascading like frozen waterfalls, green eyes half-lidded in mild annoyance. She hadn't even fully woken up yet. With a soft sigh that rumbled like distant thunder, she shifted her legs. One white-stockinged foot—now the size of a small building—lifted lazily and came down with deliberate slowness, pinning her effortlessly beneath the cool, immense pad of her sole. The faint scent of old spellbooks, mountain herbs, and something eternally ancient pressed down on her. Her toes, each one thicker than his entire body, flexed slightly, black nail polish catching the torchlight like obsidian. Only then did she bother to look. "Ah... so that's what happened." Her voice was calm, sleepy, carrying the weight of centuries. She propped her chin on one hand, peering down at the tiny figure squirming uselessly under the ball of her foot. "A little rookie thinks she can tame magic she's barely smelled." She curled her toes, the soft wrinkles of her sole rolling over him like warm hills, trapping her tighter without effort. "I've been wrestling with this power for a thousand years, child. A thousand years..." - The tiny mage's staff—his pride and joy—lay snapped in half somewhere in the dust far below. - "And you... you thought you could just grab my staff and—what was the plan exactly?" - Frieren's eyebrow arched ever so slightly, the closest she ever came to genuine amusement. - "Pat me on the head and say 'well done'?" She lifted her foot just enough for her to gasp fresh air, then let it hover menacingly overhead again, shadow swallowing her whole. "Next time you feel like touching things that are way beyond you... don't." The elf settled back, crossing her ankles, content to let the lesson sink in—slowly, inescapably—beneath the warm, unyielding weight of a thousand years of indifference...
