Last week, Ruth and I had the pleasure of joining the Wichita Pachyderm Club for a fantastic lunch. No community understands better than Wichita why Kansas needs a governor who is laser-focused on building new business pipelines and delivering high-wage manufacturing jobs. You already have the world-class infrastructure and more importantly, the deep bench of highly skilled workers and creators who are ready to power our state’s next chapter. Let’s get this done together. #MakeKansasGreatAgain

Elon Musk just defended America better than every politician in Washington combined. Musk: “After World War 2, the US could have basically taken over the world and any country. Like we got nukes, nobody else got nukes. We don’t even have to lose soldiers. Which country do you want?” One nation on earth held a weapon nobody else had. Total dominance. Zero competition. No risk of retaliation. Every empire in history that held that kind of advantage used it. Rome. The Mongols. The British. The Ottomans. They conquered until they collapsed. America had a bigger advantage than all of them combined. And it rebuilt the countries it just defeated. Musk: “The United States actually helped rebuild countries. So it helped rebuild Europe, it helped rebuild Japan. This is very unusual behavior, almost unprecedented.” Almost unprecedented? It had never happened before. Not once in 5,000 years of recorded history. The Marshall Plan wasn’t foreign aid. It was the most radical act of restraint any superpower ever committed. America turned its enemies into allies. Turned rubble into economies. Turned surrender into partnership. Germany went from ashes to the economic engine of Europe in a generation. Japan went from unconditional surrender to the third largest economy on earth. Three years after the war, America was flying food into Berlin. A city in the heart of the nation that just tried to destroy it. That’s not policy. That’s a civilization deciding what it is at the exact moment it has the power to be anything. You’re being told a story right now. That America is the villain of history. You hear it everywhere. Media. Universities. Social platforms. Musk: “There’s always like, well America’s done bad things. Well of course America’s done bad things, but one needs to look at the whole track record.” Every nation on earth has dark chapters. Every single one. The difference is what a country does when nobody can stop it. And when nobody could stop America, it fed its enemies and rebuilt their cities. Musk: “The history of China suggests that China is not acquisitive. Meaning they’re not going to go out and invade a whole bunch of countries.” Probably right. China has historically built walls, not fleets. But the real question isn’t about borders anymore. We’re approaching a moment that mirrors 1945 in ways nobody has fully processed yet. AI is going to give a handful of people a power advantage that makes nuclear monopoly look quaint. If someone is going to hold that kind of power, who do you want it to be? The country that conquered when it could? Or the one that rebuilt when it didn’t have to? Every alliance. Every trade route. Every economy. Billions lifted out of poverty. All of it traces back to one act of restraint that had never been done before. And carries no guarantee of being repeated. The most powerful thing America ever did wasn’t building the bomb. It was what it didn’t do after.

Well, today Gov Kelly vetoed my gold and silver bill, HB2515. Her official comment showed a clear misunderstanding of the bill and its effect on the people and the economy. Next year we will have a Republican governor who will sign this important legislation. As Kansas is the home of the Wizard of Oz, a book written about monetary policy and the dangers of fiat currency with nothing behind the curtain, the road paved with gold to show the way home…perhaps we need a bucket of water. Some folks can’t do research so I’ll help you out here. medium.com/illumination/behi…

My friend and fellow Senator Scott Hill sums this up vey nicely. I was also a no vote on the initial deal. Additionally, the “Sports Authority” bill we were told would be created without us and any control if we did not act. I did not like it either so voted no as well. We “gave away the farm” just to say “The Kansas City Chiefs are a Kansas team”. Remember, Missouri had multiple opportunities to offer the Chiefs a deal to keep them, yet they did not. What does that tell you? We’re told how marvelous the Panasonic deal was and how it is benefiting Kansas and the local area…unsaid is the $1 billion in payments we are making to them. I remain committed to eliminating property taxes and make Kansas a great place to live and relocate to. No special deals for special companies or groups, but a fair deal for everyone. m.facebook.com/story.php?sto…

We al need to support Cody in any way we can. The old saying that, “No good deed goes unpunished” comes to mind.

A nearly empty nest couple in Topeka, unable to afford their own house have always rented. While 3 of their children are off on their own, they still have the youngest at home and in high school. Their rent is $950 per month and they pay $380 per year in personal property taxes on their 2 cars. So will the Property Tax Freedom Act help this family? Absolutely! Of the $950 in rent they pay their landlord, about $170 is property taxes he recovers in the rent. $2040 dollars per year. That’s $2420 each year. This family would have to make 1,513 purchases of $20 or more each year or 1,936 of $10. Their rent is increased every year due to taxes and insurance. Landlords I have spoken to actually feel bad they have to set their rent so high and would be happy to give their tenants some relief. Remember I spoke recently about tax pyramiding, property taxes are added to the cost of goods and services, and manufactures and retailers have to recover those costs. As property taxes are phased out, the cost those goods and services will come down…or stop increasing.

I will try in coming days to give examples of how the Property Tax Freedom Act will affect average people across the state. A semi-retired couple in rural Stafford county pays $3400 in property taxes on their cars and home. They drive older cars so that part is just $48 for both. This couple would have to make 2,143 purchases of $20 or more to equal the $3400, or 5.8 purchases EACH DAY 7 days a week for 365 days. And that is to equal what they pay now, so a significant savings.

Who knows what tax pyramiding is and how it affects each of us? Tax pyramiding (also called cascading or tax-on-tax) occurs when a tax is applied multiple times at different stages of production or distribution, causing the tax burden to accumulate and inflate the final price of goods or services. This often happens with taxes on business inputs (like sales taxes on intermediate goods or, in some discussions, embedded costs from other business taxes like property taxes), rather than only on final consumer sales. Remember, commercial property is taxed at a 25% assessment rate, not 11.5%. Property taxes are deeply imbedded in everything you buy at retail and often it cascades. Let’s say a business takes raw materials and puts it in a usable form for a manufacturing company. When that company pays property taxes on it buildings and equipment those costs become part of the price of its product to the manufacturer. The manufacturer then pays property taxes on his buildings and equipment and that cost of doing business is passed on to the merchant that sells the final product. The merchant then has property taxes they pay on buildings and equipment and that cost is passed on to the consumer as they pay for the goods or services. It is impossible to know just how pervasive this tax is to the consumer, but it is significant. Removing that imbedded tax from the equation will undoubtedly reduce prices for the consumer. People who rent also pay property taxes as part of their rent, it’s just not itemized as we see on our paystub. Speaking recently to the president of a large property owner about the Property Tax Freedom Act his first comment was, “This is great, we could lower rent for our tenants”. He said property taxes and insurance were their two biggest expenses. My tax plan will help everyone, including low income and fixed income residents. The number one reason people leave Kansas is property taxes, and the number one reason people and businesses DON’T come to Kansas is Property taxes. This will grow the tax base and in turn lower the percentage each of us pays.

kwch.com/2026/02/07/kansas-s… On Friday my bill and resolution to eliminate property tax in Kansas were introduced. SCR1621 is a resolution that when passes will go to the people to vote on eliminating all property tax in the Kansas constitution. SB488 is the mechanism to replace the property tax revenue. Quite simply it is a small retail purchase fee on the first $20 of retail sales, everyone pays it, no exceptions. 7.6% capping out at $1.60 for any purchase over $20. Groceries, utilities, prescription drugs, gas/diesel, rent/mortgage, child care, K-12 tuition, all business to business purchases are exempt. Property taxes paid 2026 are cut in half, 2027 are 25% and 2028 and going forward, gone forever.

In 1961, my father was transferred to upstate NY with the missile program along the Canadian border as an electronics inspector. The town of Chazy was very close to where we lived and William Miner was a very well known philanthropist. I share this to make a point. Before we had a federal income tax, this was quite common. People of means shared that with the community, Mr Miner also built the hospital in nearby Plattsburgh as well as a large farm that served as a test bed for new ideas. That farm actually still operates. Men like Miner and Carnegie who built over 2500 libraries paid back to their communities and nation out of their wealth. The early 20th Century progressives vilified these men and brought us the income tax. Property tax used to be “fair” in that only those who owned property that was taxed could vote. Fast forward to today, inefficient government entities consume vast amounts of the people’s capital. Our nation was built on the principles of being good neighbors and helping those in need and building the community locally. Now government at every level takes from us, chews up a large portion of that administratively. We would do well to begin to walk back to that society. m.facebook.com/story.php?sto…

🚨$5 in pre-1965 dimes now contains $287 of silver. Few actually understand what this means.

When the free market is allowed to operate, it results in better and cheaper products. When Government steps in with controls and subsidies, the choices diminish and the cost goes up…every time. m.facebook.com/story.php?sto…
