It was a privilege to once again chair the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee for Pakistan. Truly heartwarming to meet such exceptionally bright and talented young Pakistanis. Selecting just two scholars from ten outstanding finalists was incredibly difficult. Wishing all of them the very best! @DrOsamaSiddique

Pakistan needs more entrepreneurs who invest, innovate and create value! Kudos to @MusadaqZ, one of Pakistan’s most admired entrepreneurs, for another bold $55 million investment driving industrial growth, import substitution and exports.
Pleased to announce that, by the grace of God Almighty, @ILHoldings (Interloop Holdings), in partnership with Rella Gida of Türkiye, is embarking on the construction of a new dairy processing plant under IL Foods Limited, with an investment of US$ 55 million (PKR 15 billion). The state-of-the-art facility will produce a range of cheeses and butter, as well as Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC80), a high-value protein product. We also aim to export part of the production, contributing to Pakistan’s value-added exports. With the commissioning of this new facility, our combined annual milk processing capacity will reach 180 million litres. This investment reflects our continued commitment to value addition, technological advancement, import substitution, and the development of Pakistan’s dairy industry. @rellagidatr @TC_IslamabadBE @sifcpakistan @fiedmc_official

Unnecessary noise about “brain drain”! Over the last 10 years, an average of 604,000 Pakistanis went abroad annually for employment, predominantly in labour categories. Only COVID years saw a sharp decline. With millions entering our workforce and over 500,000 graduates annually, we should facilitate more skilled workers and graduates finding better opportunities abroad, supporting their families and significantly boosting remittances.

70% of the raw materials we use come from sustainable sources. That means more responsibly sourced cotton, recycled fibres and certified materials going into what we make. #SustainableMaterials #Interloop

NUMBER OF PAKISTANI WORKERS REGISTERED FOR EMPLOYMENT ABROAD DURING THE PERIOD 2024-2026 (Till September). Total was 1.919 million. 80% were classified as labourers and drivers. Economic reasons for emigration is a separate topic but the following is just to provide correct information as most other media reports appear to be incorrect.

Heartbroken by the tragic loss of innocent children in the Peshawar school roof collapse. My deepest condolences to the grieving families. It is deeply disturbing that children are not safe even in their classrooms. How seriously do we take building safety and inspections? Schools must be places of learning, not death traps. tribune.com.pk/story/2634963…

A good piece “Poverty is not merely a number to be contested. It is a national failure to be corrected. When the poor grow poorer, disputing the numbers is no substitute for fixing the economy.” “Pakistan’s poverty problem reflects a severe structural failure in terms of weak productivity, a narrow tax base, limited industrial diversification, inadequate human-capital development and inconsistent governance.” brecorder.com/news/40443482

Stop blaming exporters for devaluation! Exporters didnt cause it. Successive devaluations were the result of economic mismanagement and balance-of-payments crises that forced Pakistan to seek IMF bailouts. By all means, hold the rupee at its current value, but can you guarantee we won’t be knocking at the IMF’s door again?
You only love devaluation at the expense of poor people in Pakistan. Exporters contribute only a meager net $6 billion while dictating the whole system. Exports are only 7-8% of GDP. Please be merciful to the rest of 92-93%

This #WorldCottonDay, we’re looking at cotton from the farm onwards. Interloop’s Regen and Organic Kapas focus on how it is grown, while Looptrace links 43,000 farmers to the supply chain for greater visibility from the source. #InterloopKapas #Traceability

An excellent piece by Dr @nadeemhaque Bankers, accountants, and some economists still regard exchange rate as a policy variable Each (Ruppee correction) episode gets diagnosed as a currency problem. It is not. It is a reform problem, and the rupee is only the messenger. The question was never whether another “devaluation” is coming. It is whether we reform before markets force the next adjustment on us anyway. Devaluation Is a Colonial Word. Modern Economics Moved On. Pakistan Did Not. nadeemulhaque.substack.com/p…
