The simultaneous attacks on the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore @sowore, and the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, His Excellency Manir Muhammad Dan'iya, are deeply troubling and unacceptable.
These twin assaults expose the extent to which the ruling APC administration is prepared to oppress and intimidate opposition leaders and their supporters.
It is particularly disturbing that while President Bola Tinubu is away on spiritual pilgrimage, political enforcers and thugs loyal to his party are unleashing terror on his political opponents at home. These two realities cannot coexist in a democracy.
The continued attacks on opposition figures and the unexplained disappearance of critical social media influencers are clear red flags of a dangerous slide toward a censored state where the opposition is crushed by the brute force of the current government.
These incidents are unbecoming of any democratic government and starkly reveal the desperation of the Tinubu administration.
We therefore demand immediate and transparent investigations into both attacks. The Tinubu government must refrain from any attempt to muzzle the opposition and must guarantee a free, fair, and competitive contest in the forthcoming general elections.
I have it on good authority that a local security outfit in Sokoto State has been harassing ADC supporters, manhandling citizens simply for wearing ADC merchandise.
We shall resist every ongoing attempt to cancel political opposition in Nigeria. The ruling APC has failed in its mandate. Nigerians must be allowed to freely participate in an electoral contest that will determine the fate of this administration. -AA

APC’s plan to halt Atiku’s momentum seems to be intimidation - from Edo to Kaduna to Rivers and now in Sokoto.
Add to it Sowore in Ekiti and you’ll see a pattern of state violence.
The Tinubu Regime should remember Gov. Makinde’s warning on the Wild Wild West and turn back from this path of government intimidation, before it escalates.
I strongly condemn the reported attack on our Sokoto State ADC governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, and members of his convoy around Sokoto Airport yesterday, 30 October 2026.
The allegations that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and Sokoto State Community Guard blocked his convoy, fired gunshots, damaged his vehicle and detained two DSS officers attached to his security detail are deeply disturbing.
I call on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and other relevant security agencies to swiftly conduct a thorough, independent and impartial investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
Every Nigerian has the right to move freely, associate with a political party and seek political office in accordance with the law. No citizen should face threats, violence or harassment for exercising these rights.
I strongly urge anyone with political differences or grievances to pursue peaceful and lawful means of expressing them. Let the people speak through their votes, not through arms.
Security outfits have a duty to protect all citizens, regardless of political affiliation. They must never become instruments of political intimidation. I call on the Sokoto State Government to ensure that all security outfits under its authority operate lawfully and impartially.
Let it be clear: no amount of intimidation or threats will deter us from proceeding with our scheduled ADC presidential campaign flag-off on 4 November 2026. We remain committed to peaceful political engagement and the rule of law.
I urge our members and supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint and remain resolute.
Sokoto belongs to all its people. Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our democracy must protect the right of every citizen to participate freely and without fear. —AWT

“Tinubu should be commended for going solar because that leaves more power for Nigerians to access.”
Hajia Kemi Asekun Shittu, APC Presidential Campaign Spokesperson, defends the President's decision to use solar power, arguing that it could ease pressure on the national grid.
Responding to concerns about Nigerians still struggling with electricity supply, she pointed to the growing population the national grid now has to serve and said solar energy offers an alternative.
