All the copies of TRUE BELIEVER with Chris Pratt as James Reece on the cover and a new foreword about the show that I signed at Parnassus Books in the Nashville airport on Thursday were gone and restocked with new copies - I just signed the new ones a few minutes ago. If you are passing through and looking for a signed TRUE BELIEVER, Parnassus has you covered. Happy Reading 📚

Today is the day we say goodbye to my childhood home. Soon to be demolished by Georgia Power for the data centers. Thank you to ALL of you, we wouldn’t be so gracious about it if it weren’t for all the support.

Happy Birthday to two notable musicians: fellow bassist Mr. Dave Holland and singer Mr. Donny Hathaway. In the 70s, I had the opportunity to work with both of these gentlemen. Learn about those collaborations via RonCarterUniverse.com

Texas is staring down an 11-gigawatt AI data center campus in the Panhandle. Project Matador has already secured a state permit for 6 gigawatts of natural-gas power generation. A project this massive raises serious questions about the strain on Texas water, power, and rural communities. Though currently paused, if restarted it could start draining resources and harming communities in the panhandle.

Today's #FlashbackFriday is to September of 1986, the release of the Academy Award Winning Round Midnight soundtrack. I had the pleasure of playing on that soundtrack with many noteworthy jazz talents... Listen here: ow.ly/wTZJ50MhzbY

"This is a billionaire land grab," Dustin McAnn told us at our stop in Boyce, Louisiana. He's a teacher, a farmer, and now the founder of the Louisiana Landowners Coalition. If your land, your bill, or your community is on the hook for someone else's data center, join us. We're stopping in 35 cities and counting, link in bio to find one near you. #HumansFirst #AIDataCenterRevolt

The Trump admin has always sided with big tech on the question of whether AI training is fair use, so their position here isn’t a surprise But it seems notable they have weighed in on this lawsuit at all. I suspect they wouldn’t bother if they didn’t think the NYT might win.
The Trump Administration files a statement of interest in the copyright lawsuit brought by The New York Times against OpenAI, taking the position that it’s fair use to train an LLM on copyrighted text.

1988: Four days before Christmas, a terrorist bomb rips apart a Boeing 747 six miles over Scotland, raining bodies, wreckage, and debris across the small market town of Lockerbie. The horrifying attack, which killed 270 men, women, and children, would launch one of the world’s largest manhunts, spanning decades across dozens of countries.   TARGETED: PAN AM 103 – LOCKERBIE, LIBYA, AND THE ATTACK THAT BROUGHT TERROR HOME, the next instalment in the Targeted nonfiction series, co-written with historian, Pulitzer Prize finalist, and New York Times bestselling author James M. Scott @jamesmscott3 hits shelves on April 13, 2027.   There are lessons in the pages of history.    Preorder your copy today in hardcover, eBook, and audiobook.  officialjackcarr.com/books/t…

We (@TheBandCracker) have nearly 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Largely because we were lucky and have had a few tracks somehow weave their way into the fabric of popular culture. Whether its recurrent radio play, random 90s playlists, algorithmic suggestions on streaming, and (probably the key driver)significant TV/Streaming/Movie placements (classic example 2 minutes of Low inPerks of a Wallflower). Over the last few years there has been a trend of private equity buying music catalogs. Much of the big stuff is gone or overvalued at this point, so now you have these lower tier private equity people or their brokers coming around and looking at catalogs like ours. Sometimes just for the hell of it I take the call. Invariably it's super low ball offer and I will respond with my fairly educated estimate of the net present value. It's usually 5-10x their opening offer. Friends If you had a few hits in the 90s do not sell your catalog without getting a real valuation from a neutral party. This does not include someone brokering the deal.
