If you've never heard of a fugue before, it's a kind of musical composition that is similar to a canon like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," but instead of each voice following the exact same melody with a delay, the voices only have to start out with the same melody and can then evolve in complex ways that obey the laws of counterpoint.
The most famous composer of fugues is Bach, who wrote two full sets of fugues in every musical key in his great works, Books 1 and 2 of the Well-Tempered Clavier.
So it was only natural that I ask GPT-6 (aided by my AI music theory system, a Rust CLI tool called mtdt, together with an agent skill library comprising ~330 skills) to make a fugue in the style of Bach.
But what melody to use? I wanted something nice and recognizable that was still simple enough that it would work well for a fugue.
It can't be too long, and it's better if it has a certain kind of simplicity that makes it easier to combine with altered versions of itself at various delays.
I ended up choosing John Williams' theme from the movie Home Alone (called "Somewhere in My Memory"), and I think it came out really well! If you're a fan of the movie and Bach, you couldn't ask for much better than this for a mash-up.

The coolest thing I've seen today: a research project that lets you put in your room any artist you recorded with your phone!
The project is called 4DAnyone (4danyone.github.io/), and it is able to create a 4DGS, which is a volumetric video made with Gaussian Splats, by just starting from a monocular video, like the ones you shoot with your phone. Usually, shooting these videos requires a huge rig with many cameras, and it is an expensive process. The goal of this project is to let you use just your phone.
4DAnyone works by trying to infer the pose of the person pictured in the video at every frame, and then use the skeletal pose together with the visuals that are seen in the video to try to reconstruct what could be the video of the person if he/she were shot from many other points of view. Once many points of view have been simulated, the process of creating a 4DGS volumetric video is the same as it is now with the huge rig of cameras.
The demo videos shown in the article are impressive. It is still a research project, though, and I strongly believe that the videos reconstructed this way can't match today's stunning quality of the 4DGS created by @gracia_hq . But it is very promising research, and in a few years we could all have volumetric videos coming out of our phones...
