Reading this reminds me of how many people out west didnt know something was referencing kinnikuman or joe (with the cross counter). Always cool to learn something new
Rest in Peace Tetsuya Chiba (1939 - 2026)
Hirohiko Araki was influenced by his works, with "Ore wa Teppei" convincing him to join the kendo club in middle school. Araki stated that the illustration of Jonathan Joestar's final scene in Phantom Blood was influenced by "Ashita no Joe."
In 2014, Araki recommended his autobiographical book, stating "The characters drawn by Chiba-sensei always feel as close as friends who are right by your side."
Damn. Remonds me when my mom painted my door and my sister's door with something we liked. Rad stuff to see
This is how a horror movie starts- next thing you know the car is going to say "you arent going anywhere... I'll protect you..."
Tatsuya Chiba passed away today, at 87.
