If you trace it all back, it’s actually signing Phillip Rivers in March 2020. Colts hold the 14th pick in a draft with Burrow, Tua, Herbert & Love, but now choose to build a “win now” team. Trade a 1st for Buckner, trade another 1st (16th) + 3rd for Wentz, trying to keep win.
CBS Sports' @carterbahns highlighted seven moves that contributed to Chris Ballard's firing: 🔹Josh McDaniels hiring fiasco 🔹Carson Wentz trade 🔹Matt Ryan trade 🔹Shane Steichen hiring 🔹Anthony Richardson draft pick 🔹Sauce Gardner trade 🔹Daniel Jones extension Which was the worst? 👀

Phillip Rivers turns into Carson Wentz, Carson Wentz turns into Matt Ryan, which causes Jeff Saturday. The disastrous 2022 season causes the panic move of drafting a very raw Anthony Richardson. Rookie HC Shane Steichen believes he can have AR ready for Week 1, gets hurt Week 4.

Fans are hilarious. Five RBs in the HISTORY of the NFL have been traded for a 1st round pick. Once in the last 24 years. 26 year old Christian McCaffrey was traded for 4 picks, the equivalent of the 41st pick in the draft. Saying you want a minimum of a 1st for JT is absurd.
All these teams calling about Jonathan Taylors availability leads me to believe that at least one of them is going to end up offering the Colts a first If that is the case, are you accepting a first for Jonathan Taylor?

Spaniel Jones, if I may. 🐕 I’ll even allow Daniel Bones. 🦴

If I had my choice, Anthony Richardson/Riley Leonard would be the Colts’ QB in 2027. For the 1% chance he miraculously becomes a real QB: Cool. Otherwise: He leads you to your next QB in the NFL Draft.

Ohhhh we’ve got a battle! It’s literally 49ers O vs. 49ers D. #ColtsTwitterFantasy

If a team can hire Chris Ballard to ONLY scout Offensive Line, they will be set at the position for the foreseeable future. Just don’t let him touch ANY other position.

It is true. Carlie Irsay-Gordon has NOT made any moves in 3 years! …the good news is that she’s only been the Owner/CEO for 1 year.
Yes. When she hasn’t made any moves in 3 years, and it keeps getting worse. She is also the problem

It’s tough. I don’t disagree, but there are also underlying numbers that say he is an elite route runner + separator. That’s for someone way smarter than me (not difficult) to figure out.

Downs is not a major difference maker and will want a good contract. Not worth it

I actually have a hard time understanding Daniel Jones’ contract. $46M cap hit, $38M if cut during the offseason… maybe? If Quenton Nelson wants to stay, I think you pay to keep a Hall Of Famer in-house for the rest of his career. That matters.

Is Nelson worth an extension? What is Jones’ cap hit for next year?

If, for some reason, Carlie does decide to fire Chris Ballard during the season, his temporary replacement will be whoever will do exactly what she wants for the rest of the season - personnel, trades, etc. It won’t be an audition for next year. It will be a puppet.

The Colts currently have $78M in cap space for 2027, potentially a little more depending on what they do with Daniel Jones. Can free up some more if they’re able to move Bynum or Ward. Ade and Nelson may be extended. Downs is up in the air.

Put Tony Sparano Jr. in charge.

If you clean house now, who do you put as the coach? There is nobody here capable

Daniel Jones needs a get-right game today. A poor performance against the Titans, and the calls for AR (warranted or not) are going to get a lot louder.

When you make $50M this year, and have 4 Passing TDs, 6 INTs + 4 Fumbles through 6 games.

That was the loss that the Colts needed. It’s over for this era. Just unfortunate that they don’t have their 1st round pick, because that is going to end up being a high pick given to the Jets.

I’ll be interested in seeing if Irsayhas the guts to fire anyone this week. At the very least, the D Coordinator, but you can make a case for cleaning house for the culture change.
