In his parliamentary debate on #SEND provision, @RichardBurgon called for the scrapping of Safety Valve ✅, the cancelling of LA high needs debt ✅ and for government to discourage the demonisation of "pushy parents" who are forced to fight for their children's support. We concur

Neurodiversity is a vital concept. Understanding the difference between neurodiverse & neurodivergent is much more important than splitting hairs over linguistics. I made a comic explainer. Higher quality pics & with qus for reflection: medium.com/@sonnyhallett/neu… #Neurodiversity

Anyone ANYONE who comes into contact with children for professional purposes should have to undergo mandatory EDI SEND awareness training. That’s it. DBS + Disability Awareness. We have to do better & eradicate ableism via CPD. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce5e…

I’ve been thinking about the cognitive dissonance teachers wrestle with. Any research on this? I am sure it’s contributing to the recruitment & retention crisis we’re seeing. I want to share one specific example of this from my own teaching practice. 👇

Having to go through a Tribunal appeal has a massive impact on families - and not every family can do it. The solution to this situation is to ensure that local authorities comply with the law, make lawful decisions first time and fulfil their duties to children & young people.
Research out today from @ProBonoEcon commissioned by the DCP has found that £60mn of public money was wasted on lost SEND tribunals in 2021-22. 9,960 places in SEN units in mainstream schools could be funded each year with the money wasted. Our report: probonoeconomics.com/wasting…

If an autistic person is expressing their autistic joy or authentic self, please don’t tell them they are being too loud, too much or need it tone it down if there is no need to. Each time they are shamed for their unmasked self, a little bit of them breaks. #AutsimAcceptanceDay

School Absence Laws are harming our young people. Yesterday I talked to a group of child therapists about trauma and neurodiversity. Spontaneously, they brought up the effect of government attendance policies on the young people they work with. Here's why we need change. 1/

'It Will Get Easier'. When children are unhappy at school& reluctant to go, it's often called anxiety. The child's emotions are assumed to be the problem. The work of parents and professionals is to change how they feel. Here's the problem with that. (with @_MissingTheMark)1/
