Happy 2025! Please follow our 5 Personal Safety tips throughout the year and stay safe when you are out and about.
Alcohol dulls your instincts and can lead you to make unsafe decisions. Keep a close eye on your drinks and don’t leave them unattended so you can minimise the risk of them being spiked. Also watch out for strangers offering you their vape. Vapes, like drinks, can be spiked.
Don’t be a hero on a night out. If there's a fight or an argument, stay out of it and get help from bouncers or the police.
If you can, get a lift with someone you trust. Book a taxi well in advance at New Year. When you book a licensed taxi, you know it is reputable and reliable. Black cabs are the only type of private hire vehicle that you can hail on the street. Don’t get into an unlicensed cab.
Keep valuables like phones and wallets in zipped pockets or bags. Stay in well-lit areas. Theft is less likely if there is good lighting, CCTV and people around. Plan a route home and stick to places you know. Never take short cuts, especially dark allies, canal paths or parks.
Always stay within a group when possible. By remaining close to the people you trust and know well, you’ll reduce the risk of being targeted by people who are up to no good and could be out to take advantage.

When you book a licensed mini-cab or taxi, you know it is reputable and reliable. Black cabs are the only private hire vehicle that you can hail on the street, all other cabs must be pre-booked. Don’t be tempted to get into an unlicensed cab. The risks are far too high.
Don’t be a hero on a night out. If there's a fight or an argument, stay out of it and get help from bouncers or the police.
Keep all valuables like phones, wallets and purses in zipped pockets or bags. Ideally, leave valuables such as jewellery at home. Keep your mobile phone hidden. People will often have valuables stolen on a night out and if you’re drunk, you are an easier target.
