Pharmacies are ranked as the most accessible healthcare destinations in the U.S., which makes them a natural place to help connect people to healthier food.
The NACDS Foundation's research pilot on Food is Medicine, featured this week in USA Today, is testing that idea. In partnership with the Food is Medicine Institute at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at @TuftsUniversity, pharmacists at participating pharmacy locations screen their patients with diabetes and hypertension, who also experience nutrition insecurity, then write them Nutrition Prescriptions, providing funds for nutritious food. These patients also receive nutrition education.
Through these interventions, the project aims to improve nutrition outcomes, including diet quality, as well as disease-specific measures such as A1c and blood pressure. Thank you to the pharmacy teams, researchers, and patients taking part in this critical project.

Alumni Spotlight ⭐️ : Tolu Akinwale
Here's what Tolu Akinwale, the NACDS Foundation's 2013 Executive Fellow, had to say about his experience in the Executive Fellow program:
"The NACDS Foundation Executive Fellowship gave me a seat at the table with industry leaders at a pivotal point in my career, opening doors I didn't know existed. It showed me that pharmacy's real influence happens in the work that shapes patient access and population health, not just at the counter."
The application is open from now until December 31. Share with recent pharmacy graduates today!

🧵The day a person turns 65 and enrolls in Medicare, the pharmacist-provided care they relied on for years can disappear. One bill would fix that...

9 in 10 Americans live within 5 miles of a pharmacy, yet outdated barriers still prevent seniors from accessing timely care from trusted pharmacists close to home.
Grateful my bipartisan Main Street Pharmacy Access Act passed out of @WaysandMeansGOP, bringing us one step closer to ensuring patients get the care they need—when and where they need it.

PASSED: The Ways and Means Committee just passed H.R. 3164, the Main Street Pharmacy Access Act.
This bill enables Medicare coverage for pharmacist-provided testing, vaccinations, and treatment for common infectious diseases and is a transformative solution to expand access to care in communities facing significant physician shortages, especially across rural America.
