As the holiday season begins, we revisit our advocate Sher Grogg's story. Sher lost her brother and sister-in-law and their 4 grandchildren in a home #fire caused by a dry Christmas tree. A house build like a fortress was reduced to cinders. When firefighters arrived, flames were already shooting through the roof. The beautiful home had everything, except home #firesprinklers. youtube.com/watch?v=S8LRsfuy…

🔥 NEW B SHIFTER PODCAST: SHANE RAY SAYS, “LET IT RUN!”🚒
It's been over a year since we last caught up with Shane Ray, President of the National Fire Sprinkler Association, and he's back with plenty to say!
What happens when sprinklers are controlling a fire in a big-box store or mega-warehouse? The decisions firefighters and incident commanders make next can mean the difference between a successful save and a multimillion-dollar loss.
We talk sprinkler operations, fire pumps, valve control, NFPA 13E, and why Pull Up, Hook Up, Pump Up” matters!

🎃 Halloween is Saturday! Keep decorations off sprinkler heads and clear of exit signs, alarms, and pull stations. A spooky lobby shouldn’t block your life safety gear.

🔥 BIG BOX WORKSHOP IN PHOENIX! 🚒
We're kicking off a two-day Blue Card Big Box Workshop today at the Alan V. Brunacini Command Training Center in Phoenix, Arizona!
We're excited to have Shane Ray, President of the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), joining us as we take a deep dive into the unique challenges of managing fires in large commercial buildings, warehouses, and distribution centers.
Not long ago, a 150,000-square-foot big box store was considered enormous. Today, fulfillment centers and warehouses routinely exceed 1 MILLION square feet!
These buildings are different. Their fire protection systems, life safety profiles, critical factors, and tactical considerations demand a different approach to incident command.
Over the next two days, we'll focus on:
🚒 Understanding fire sprinkler and protection systems
🚒 Identifying Big Box critical factors
🚒 Strategic decision-making and risk management
🚒 Division/Sector operations and tactical supervision
🚒 Applying what we've learned through realistic Big Box command simulations
The goal isn't simply to fight a bigger fire. It's to understand the building, work with its fire protection systems, and make better strategic and tactical decisions.
A big thank you to Shane Ray and the NFSA for their continued partnership and commitment to firefighter safety and education!

At approximately 7:47 p.m., South Adams County Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Super 8 near I-76 and 88th Avenue.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from a hotel room, with the fire contained to a single room. The building’s fire sprinkler system activated, helping limit the spread of the fire. Firefighters worked to control the situation and prevent further extension.
We thank our assisting agencies, Adams County Fire Rescue, Thornton Fire Department, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, for their support and coordination.
This incident is associated with a separate law enforcement matter. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is leading that investigation and will handle inquiries related to that incident.
