Who else got a little work on this morning before and after getting the turkey ready for roasting? But No more work now that others are awake.
At ASBMB membership meeting. One thing is clear that more and more grad students are not wanting academia and instead industry. We need to think how to support this change

Excited and honored to talk to incoming crop of grad students at Univ N Dakota tomorrow #Career
#Career. Be a scientist but don’t be defined by your project. Science will thrill and fail. You succeed either way
#Career I almost quit grad school several times feeling like a failure and frustrated. Don’t do it. Perseverance
#Career success comes when you understand life comes as seasons. Some are stormy and intense others on the beach.
#Career grad school is hard. It’s an investment in yourself and your family. Work hard fail hard and win too.
School starts Wednesday . Do I have to? No- but my research crew starts too. Excited to get them off to a good start. #UndergradResearch_rules!
A room full of chemistry and biochem grad school chairs talking about admission processes at the ACS meeting. None require the subject GRE! #holisticadmissions
Seeing new format for ACS Committee on Professional Training report for accreditation. Both depts and reviewing will have all new input. So much better. Chairs Rejoice!

When summer doesn’t end. Three of my students don’t want to stop research and are volunteering to do a few more weeks. Plus two students from another school are here too. #neverendingsummer. #soproud #needmoregrants!

I’d like to reply with my endorsement for the @MSOE model lending library. My students’ understanding of molecular structure is enhanced when they can explore physical models. I’ve reserved mine for the fall and I’d encourage anyone interested to do so as well; they go fast!

Last day and a packed room to listen to Dr Pam Mertz give her talk on adding professional skills to undergrad curriculum. #ASBMBedsymp
Is hypothesis development a favored activity of the scientific method dimension of a CURE?
Interesting question at #SABER2019 from @emmacgoodwin (Portland State) & Allison Martin/SIRIUS project (CSU Sacramento): do students need to generate their own research questions and design their own studies & methods to feel like they are doing "real science?" @CURENet1
Book coming. A nice mix of two societies
At the #ASBMBedsymp, Mary Kopecki-Fjetland @stedwardsu discussed her strategies of using active learning strategies to improve her students’ mastery of the fundamental concepts so important to the understanding of biochemistry.
