ALT A Shelterforce headline questions whether the ROAD to Housing Act will deliver. Exerpt says: "HUD’s staff has been hobbled by cuts from the Trump administration’s “deferred resignations” in April 2025, in which the administration spent billions of dollars paying workers to resign, as well as more layoffs during the government shutdown last year. HUD is currently operating with 5,800 employees, according to Federal News Network, compared to 8,800 before the second Trump administration began. “A lot of the most experienced people at the agencies have left, and that creates real challenges for making these programs work,” Shamus Roller says. Implementing all the programs in the law might require a new federal administration re-staffing the agency. A HUD spokesperson did not address whether the agency would increase hiring to implement the law’s provisions."
