in the spring we ran our first Founder Sprint for NY Tech Week focused on bringing elite Israeli founders to the US for the week we believe firmly that Israeli founders are some of the strongest in the world Israel has 0.1% of the world’s population but produces more unicorns per capita than any country on earth…5x the US so we @speedrun brought the 0.01% of the 0.1% to the US for a week 8 builders just beginning to think about starting a company (no one had raised a $) They know that if you want to build a global company you have to start from day 0 Apply for our next Sprint (which we’re expanding to the most exceptional international founders anywhere) before slots are all filled: a16zspeedrunsprint.com h/t to @airwallex for the supporting Global Founders with us on both Sprints
we at a16z @speedrun believe in building global companies from day 0. And helping the best builders from abroad connect with Silicon Valley last week we hosted the first Israeli Founder Sprint at NY Week we brought a handful of the sharpest builders just embarking on their journey across the pond to NYC to meet customers, partners, fellow founders, investors, etc until the next Global Founder Sprint 🫡 cc @airwallex (our partner), @noyakremer @_CallMeMacy @tmhammer @asaf_ez

Loop engineering is great until something breaks. Here is how I improve the reliability of my agentic loops. I use human-in-the-loop (HITL). It's easy and extremely effective. Anyone can build this. My setup: I recorded a quick demo of how it all works. I shared recently that I now use more voice agents to build and communicate with agents. I also use them to verify. I hate the idea of being tied down to my computer or in a Slack channel to communicate with my agents. Here is what I have done to streamline communication with my agents. All my Claude and Codex agent sessions now use the @DialAgent MCP server. It has a bunch of tools and provisions my agents with their own number that can place calls as native tools, with voice, SMS, and iMessage behind one interface. As my loops/automations work on PRs and new features, my agents escalate decisions to me via a short phone call. This is extremely useful when I am on the road or away from my desk. If you want to try this with Claude Code or Codex, paste this into your agent and get started right away: "Get yourself a Dial phone number and call me. Say hello and that setup is working, then hang up. Follow getdial.ai/skills.md" @NVoitenkov and team are building something special here. Go check them out. Give your agent a phone number now: getdial.ai ($5 free credit)

ok - dropping big dates/news for a16z speedrun: - starting TODAY, founders can apply for the 2026 program that runs July 27 to Oct 11 in SF here's the link: speedrun007.a16z.com/ac - we will be investing up to $1M and funding 70+ companies over the next few weeks - But there's also $5M in credits/tokens/etc from AWS/GCP/Open AI/Azure/NVIDIA/Deel/Stripe/etc. You'll also work with our amazing operating team (GTM, talent, brand, people, and more), and join our community of elite founders - we offer a Global Founders Program for international founders, to help with visas, banking support, relo recommendations - yes you can be solo (but better if you're further along, and have built a team). No you don't have to have an idea yet. Yes you have to know how to build (even if you're not technical) - Also, in other news: speedun is officially moving full-time to SF. (prev it alternated SF/LA) this is for all the obv reasons - we've continued to have an insane lineup of speakers, including the founders of Carta / DoorDash / Twilio / Figma / Zynga / Airtable / Twitch / and of course, lunch/dinners with Marc/Ben alongside a16z team - and much more - the deadline for applying is May 17!

a16z @speedrun is the bridge to the US for international teams building global companies from day 0 I'm personally very bullish on the Israeli tech ecosystem and the incredible founders coming out of it. They are tenacious, sharp and driven to build something bigger than themselves This batch we had 4 exceptional Israeli teams. We've had 14 since we started the program 3 years ago. This is just the start Stay tuned for some big announcements from my partner @noyakremer and me 👀 pic with our SR006 Israeli founders from yesterday's demo day in San Francisco @NissenbergElad @segalbenji @IamChocolateBar @ChiefTanki

Every era of apps has a defining concept for how you win: mobile was distribution, SaaS was switching costs For AI apps, it’s Minimum Viable Moat: the smallest edge that survives a 3x capability jump from your model provider Foundation model labs aren’t your traditional incumbents. They ship fast and hard. If your product lead evaporates when Opus 5 ships, you don’t have a defensible business What passes the test: - network effects that compound with additional users - workflows too embedded to rip out (vertical AI thrives here) - licensed or proprietary data (80% of the world’s data is private!) - data loops your users create as they use the product (ex. personalization) - brand trust built over many positive interactions with your product if you’re not building toward one or more of these, you’re building on a temporary model capability gap. expect it closed in 3-6 months.

when choosing between 2 startup ideas - pick the more ambitious one. a common pitfall we see with first-time founders is they pick a small idea because it's more knowable - ex. AI homework assistant vs AI university the big idea seems scary because there are so many answers you don't know yet. for an AI university, should you start with course content or the tech platform? find teachers first or students? in comparison, the small idea is dangerously attractive because you feel like you understand all the variables better because it's a smaller problem my suggestion to early teams navigating the idea maze is to decouple long-term vision from near-term execution. your initial product build - your "wedge" - should be scoped to something a small team can execute on. but you still need to have that big ambitious vision for the long-term. a big vision helps: - attract talent: the brightest minds tend to want to work on world-changing problems, not small ones (AI university > better homework) - fuel for the journey: when the going gets tough, an inspiring vision helps remind folks why we're here - attract investors: VCs want to work with ambitious founders and often that revolves around a big long-term vision and telling that story clearly - frame the roadmap: you might make different choices re: who you hire, what you build first etc, with the end-game in mind you won't know all the answers starting off - and that's totally ok. keep the long-term vision in mind, while starting with tightly scoped product bets a small team can build. and as you ship and iterate on user feedback, you get closer to your vision one step at a time there's a classic lewis carroll quote - "if you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there." don't be Alice in Wonderland, know where you're going (and pick an inspiring destination)!

LAST CALL FOR A16Z SPEEDRUN 2026: you've got two options in life: 1/ build for yourself 2/ build for someone else (as a wise account once said). Those of you who have been following our work at a16z speedrun have been tracking us bc building for yourself, and betting on yourself, is the highest calling. It's the most fun, you learn the most, and there's a chance to build something great. this is why you should: - quit whatever it is you're doing - build the startup you've wanted to build - work with me and the a16z team 1:1 - And yes, I'll invest up to $1M via a16z speedrun (and the earlier your startup, the better. apply here: speedrun006.a16z.com/x) In fact we are entering the final 72 hours before the deadline Sunday Sep 28 2025, 11:59PM PST. the details: - easy/quick to apply - we wire immediately - up to $1M of investment - hosted at a16z HQ in SF SOMA - 12 week program, with an IRL kickoff - private dinners/Q&A with Marc/Ben of a16z - live events with the founders of Carta, Zynga, DoorDash, Behance, Airtable, Twilio, Figma, and more there's a lot more to the program that's on our website, and you can check out the FAQ for more. Some common questions that come up: - do you accept global founders? YES - do you accept solo founders? YES - do you need to be technical? NO - do I need a referral? NO in general, anyone can apply. But the ones that are selected need to stand out. If you don't have a cofounder, that's fine -- but have you recruited a few people to be a team? Do you have some customers? Those are all useful to demonstrate that you're serious, and you've been able to start the first steps of your journey by convincing other people to join you. Are you international? Great -- we'll help you with relo and O-1 visas. Not technical? That's fine, but then tell us the prototype you vibecoded, or the engineer you recruited. How we're different Sometimes we're asked how we designed speedrun to be different. There's a lot of ways: - we're part of a16z, a broader firm with a big network, lots of vertical expertise, and a long track record - we have a deep operating team, with experts from talent, people, BD, creators, marketing, and so on. We've invested big here and help - we host speedrun from a16z's offices in SF (for SR6), where you're part of our community of founders - we're the only multistage firm with a scaled effort to invest in the unique needs of early stage startups. We have a whole team on it and we're working hard! scouts and referrals You might have noticed a number of folks announcing themselves as scouts who invest in a16z speedrun companies. If you know them, great! Please reach out. They are often founders who have gone through the program, and they can give you tips, connect you to folks at speedrun with a warm intro, etc. Sometimes they invest, sometimes they don't :) just ask. In general, referrals are useful but not required. They are useful in that we get a lot of interest for speedrun and it often takes us a few weeks to work through everyone. (sorry!) Thus, if someone flags your startup to us, we can help prioritize and get to it earlier. But again, not required. The deadline Consider this your last call! The final deadline is Sunday 11:59PM PST. Apply to speedrun, we'll get back to you shortly, we wire ASAP, and then we kick off SR6 in SF in Jan 2026. Here's your chance to bet on yourself.

The biggest opportunity for startups in AI according to Granola founder @cjpedregal? Build a Ferrari-level experience. Use the most expensive, cutting edge models. Big companies can’t do this because they have millions of users.
