The government has agreed to meet the CWU and Royal Mail's owners on 3rd November. When this happens, we'll be calling for the government to support a new direction for the company, which will require:
• An ambitious growth strategy that utilises Royal Mail's infrastructure to embed our postal workers at the heart of the community and the economy;
• A new ownership model which gives greater accountability to the public;
• Workers and the government taking a greater stake in Royal Mail;
• Ending the 'race to the bottom' culture in the wider postal and logistics sector.
We asked the government to crack down on bogus self-employment, and they listened. This is a good start, and we will continue fighting to improve the lives of our members and the quality of their industry.

Three quarters of the British public want Royal Mail back in public hands.

Thanks to the 250 plus members and colleagues from Darlington, Gosforth, and North Tyneside who took part in our branch action for @SRTRC_England Wear Red Day, yesterday. This is only a fraction of the pictures we got.

The BBC have shone a light on the harsh pressure postal workers are facing, and the price paid by consumers for the historic mismanagement of Royal Mail.
The company has been in structural decline for well over a decade, and the continuous failure to deliver quality of service is killing the brand, demoralising the workforce, and letting down the communities that postal workers are proud to serve.

We require urgent formal talks between the @CWUnews , @RoyalMail Mail Management and the UK Government
For too long, bogus self-employment has allowed companies to drive down labour costs, shift risks onto workers and deny them decent pay and proper protections. It also allows parcel operators to undercut Royal Mail and companies that directly employ their staff, creating an unfair playing field that rewards bad employers.
The government's consultation published today is an important step forward in a campaign the CWU has fought for years and welcome news for thousands of workers who deserve better.
We will press the government to introduce robust, non-negotiable rules that close loopholes, protect workers’ rights and create a level playing field across the world of work.

At this stage, it doesn't matter what delivery model is adopted: unless the company faces up to its self-inflicted recruitment and retention crisis, it is on the brink of collapse.
For years, we have had select committees, promises of £500 million improvement plans, a broad array of agreements and threats to improve from Ofcom.
Royal Mail is in serious need of a business vision that provides dignified work for employees and quality service for consumers and communities.

BT's proposal to move 600 jobs out of Liverpool is a major blow to our city.
These roles provide essential strategic support across the North West.
At PMQs, I called on the Prime Minister to support Liverpool's workforce & urge BT to reconsider these plans.

Yesterday, I joined @CWUnews outside The Plaza to demonstrate against @BT_UK plans to cut 600 jobs from the site.
Their proposals are short-sighted and misguided. Myself @metromayorsteve and @KimJohnsonMP have already held two meetings with BT to push back against their plans.
BT CWU members in Liverpool gathered together yesterday to protest the proposed relocation of 600 jobs from the city region.
