Safe staffing saves lives. This week, a member of my team joined @nynurses at Kings County Hospital to stand with the nurses who care for Central Brooklyn every day.
A nurse practitioner and local union leader was suspended without pay for speaking up about patient safety and long-standing staffing concerns. Nurses have a right to advocate for their patients and their workplace, and @nychealthsystem must respect that.
Our community depends on Kings County, and investing in its nurses is an investment in Brooklyn's health. I stand with NYSNA in calling on hospital leadership to address staffing concerns and to prioritize recruiting and retaining bedside nurses.
Episode 34: Brooklyn Small Business Series
Debbie Lewis of Sweet Sundays Cafe on the sweet Haitian tradition that inspired her cafƩ. (Part One)
Debbie co-owns Sweet Sundays Cafe with her husband, Felix, and their second location in Prospect Lefferts Gardens is now serving brunch. The cafeās name honors Debbie's grandfather, who owned a chain of bakeries and restaurants in Haiti. Every Sunday, he and his team turned their surplus food into meals for people who didn't have enough. Sweet Sundays Cafe carries on that tradition of giving back to the community.

On October 3, Roberto Lamour was kidnapped from his home, in my district, by ICE. He is a husband, a father, and a friend to many.
Today, I stood in solidarity with my colleagues in government and community organizers to demand that ICE return Roberto to his family. Iām calling on our partners in the federal government to help bring him home now.
It was a pleasure meeting with Rabbi Mendel Marasow of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council! Looking forward to staying connected and finding ways to continue supporting our community together.
Grateful to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce for hosting a workshop with @TikTokShop on how small businesses can use the platform to reach new customers and grow.
I especially loved hearing from River and Rusty of @honeyglowny , two Brooklyn-born brothers who launched their very own skincare business on TikTok Shop.
Our small businesses are the backbone of our neighborhoods, and they deserve access to every tool that can help them thrive.

New Yorkās history begins with Indigenous peoples, whose communities, cultures and leadership continue to shape our state.
This Indigenous Peoplesā Day, we honor their contributions and recognize the displacement and injustice they have endured. Telling the full story of our country means making room for the histories too often left out and listening to the Indigenous communities carrying them forward.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a reminder that early detection, access to care, and strong support systems matter for both women and men, and for the families walking alongside them.
Our office was proud to join the 77th Precinctās Pink Ribbon Walk to support survivors, honor those weāve lost, and help keep these conversations visible in our community.
Thank you to the 77th Precinct and all of the partners who brought neighbors together for an important cause.

Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica almost a year ago as a Category 5, the strongest storm the island has seen since records began. The media has moved on, but Jamaicans are still rebuilding. šÆš²
We dropped our donations off at Assembly Speaker Carl E. Heastie's office. Here's what we gave.
There's still time to contribute this Saturday. New items only. Swipe for details.
As Sukkot continues, I'm wishing a Chag Sameach to all of our neighbors celebrating across Crown Heights and the 43rd District. May this season of gathering and gratitude bring peace and joy to your families.
Thereās a lot about food access in our own neighborhood that most people donāt know.
Thatās why efforts like this matter. Iām proud to partner with Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson and thank him for his leadership as Chair of the Task Force on Food, Farm & Nutrition Policy.
Now through November 13, bring non-perishable food donations to our district office at 249 Empire Blvd.
I could not believe this story. Iām glad Governor Hochul called for an independent review, and that Cornell has committed to working with state officials.
Nearly 1,000 New Yorkers entered Cornell as first-year students this fall. When families send their children there, they should never have to question whether the systems meant to protect them will actually work.
For most of us, the day doesn't start until we've had our first cup of coffee. In honor of #NationalCoffeeDay, we wanted to highlight the many great cafes District 43 has to offer to put a delicious pep in their step.

Excited to welcome Kimoya and Mike, two Corporate Work Study Student Associates from Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School, to our office!
Workforce development starts with creating opportunities for young people to gain real-world experience, build professional skills, and see themselves in the careers theyāre preparing for. Weāre proud to partner with Cristo Rey Brooklyn and invest in the next generation.
ICE is not bloodclaat welcome in Brooklyn. Iām aware of reports of federal immigration enforcement activity in Brooklyn. Our office is prepared and remains vigilant.
Thank you to the organizations like @thenyic, Hands Off NYC, and rapid-response teams alike doing the work on the ground.
New organizations looking to connect or coordinate with our office can reach us at [email protected].
