Fighting every day to deliver a city that working New Yorkers can actually afford. Mayor of New York City.

One month ago, I sat down with President Lula to discuss how government serving poor and working people. Weeks later, Brazil took a historic step: a 40-hour workweek, at least two days off and no cuts to pay for more than 30 million workers. Workers fought for decades to win the five-day workweek in America. Brazilian workers have fought for this victory, too. I congratulate them on this achievement. Working people deserve time to live, not just work. Building a better future means giving people more of their lives back. And we’ll keep fighting for it.

This week, I was blessed to join Hindu New Yorkers in Queens celebrating Navratri, Durga Puja, Dashain, and Vijayadashami.  We danced garba, performed aarti, witnessed Sindoor Khela, and honored the Goddess Durga. It was an honor to come together in joy, faith, and community in temples across our city — especially after the attempted mass shooting at a Hindu temple in Illinois last week. May we all join together in our shared responsibility to stand against hate and care for one another. Jai Mata Ki.

Last month, ahead of the 25th remembrance of the horrific terror attacks of September 11th, our administration launched the City’s first public portal for 9/11-related city records and released 20,000 documents related to air quality and toxins that had never previously been made public.  Today, we’re announcing the addition of 40,000 more documents to the portal. Now, more than 200,000 pages of records — once hidden — are available to every single New Yorker at nyc.gov/sept11docs. For years, first responders, survivors, and family members sought accountability and transparency from city government. This year, we listened.
Our commitment to honoring those we lost that day — and supporting those who suffered in the years since — cannot begin or end on the anniversary. We will continue to do everything in our power to bring clarity to New Yorkers.

We know how to make our streets safer, so we did it 600 times. Red light cameras reduce red light running by 80% and T-bone crashes by 65%. Most importantly, they help New Yorkers get home safely. That's why we installed new red light cameras at 600 intersections across the five boroughs to help stop dangerous driving before tragedy strikes, and make our streets safer for everyone who walks, rolls, drives, or takes the bus. nydailynews.com/2026/10/21/n…

who wore it better?
Zohran Mamdani’s administration has unveiled new sidewalk shed designs for NYC in an effort to bring better-designed sidewalks to all five boroughs. The administration has also reduced the number of sidewalk sheds by 1,200 across the city — a decrease of over 15% in 10 months.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The displayed coverings was developed under former Mayor Eric Adams' 'Get Sheds Down' campaign. Mamdani has continued the work of removing unnecessary sidewalk sheds and tightening rules for property owners, but it was not his administration that presented these designs. nyc.gov/mayors-office/… nyc.gov/mayors-office/…

Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.  Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is. I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately. The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.  The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.

We prevent violence by directly listening to those who experience it. For years, the Crisis Management System (CMS) has successfully reduced crime across our city by empowering trusted community leaders to mediate conflict and lower tensions before violence can occur. That's why our administration's Office of Community Safety is expanding CMS to Bushwick, Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood through a $4.8 million investment. The absence of crime is only possible with the presence of support. That's our administration's vision for public safety.

New Yorkers have waited their entire lives for tonight: when the Knicks championship banner will be raised into the rafters of Madison Square Garden. What a testament to the incredible 2025-26 Knicks and the city that stood alongside them every step of the way. LGK.

On April 5, 1977, people with disabilities occupied government buildings across the country with simple demands: access to education, jobs, and public spaces. It has been fifty years since the Section 504 sit-ins, but the fight for those with disabilities continues. This weekend, New Yorkers with disabilities and their neighbors marched and rolled in the annual Disability Pride Parade to honor that fight — and celebrate the city New Yorkers with disabilities have helped build.  Whether it's through accessible bus stops or expanded school curriculums, our administration will continue to work towards a city where disability does not signify limitation.

From affordable housing to community safety, lasting change doesn't happen on its own. It happens when working people organize, demand more and win together.

Navigating changes to Medicaid and SNAP shouldn't mean navigating a maze to get help. Today, we're launching HART, a new outreach team helping New Yorkers keep their health coverage, food benefits and get support on everything from housing assistance to eviction prevention. As federal work requirements put thousands at risk of losing benefits and up to 900,000 New Yorkers at risk of losing health coverage, we're making sure no one gets left behind.
Today we announced the launch of the Health and Affordability Resource Team (HART), a new outreach team that will help New Yorkers navigate sweeping federal changes to Medicaid and SNAP and connect them with the benefits and services they need. Read more: on.nyc.gov/4k32b5t

This week, we opened 385 new affordable homes in Brooklyn. We’ll soon grow the Innovative Urban Village to 2,000 affordable homes, child care, jobs, a grocery store and a performing arts center. That’s what it looks like to build a city without pricing out the working class.
