Algeria’s referendum is an attempt to "suppress" the almost two years protest movement and "turn the page" with a constitutional "quick fix" that Hirak has never claimed.
This referendum falls short of fundamental reform. We, therefore, call it out. #AlgerianProtests
The referendum's timing is auspicious.
It falls on 1 November - the anniversary of the start of Algeria's war of independence against France back in 1954, a date today's government chose for its symbolism.
