Losing to Argentina is more damning on Tuchel than defeat v Croatia/Italy/Spain are on Southgate.
Those three nations were better than England, Argentina were not.

It isn’t unfair to say Argentina wouldn’t be in the finals without Messi. Reality is, they wouldn’t. He’s dragged them through the KOs.
BUT… that does not mean other players haven’t massively upped their game. Romero and Lisandro, Tagliafico, Paredes and Enzo, even Lautaro and Julian. All massively influential.
Ultimately, this team in set-up in a way where Messi HAS to be the focal point. There are very few teams and players that could make it work, and perhaps, having the literal GOAT is the only way.
Regardless, while Messi deserves all the praise in the world for what he’s delivered, too many on here gloss over the efforts of the rest. I do not think that’s fair.
