Oh how the mighty have fallen. From walking out of St. George’s Chapel in a tiara once worn by the Queen of all tiaras, Queen Mary, to hocking new age hokum, Meghan Markle is one of the ultimate examples of Icarus. Much like the legendary man who flew too close to the sun in his wax wings, Meghan made the mistake of believing that she could best a 1000-year-old institution. She’s been revealed for a fool instead. When Meghan Markle met Prince Harry, she was a subpar actress and part-time influencer desperate for the fame and Hollywood validation that always escaped her. Her career high was “Suits,” and her prospects were looking bleak as the series started to wrap up. Then, in walked Prince Harry. A dummy of a Prince with a spare complex who was desperate for a wife and children to compete with his brother, the heir. Meghan needed fame and fortune, Harry wanted a wife and children, it was a perfect, though obviously, toxic match. Once she married Harry, Meghan was under the delusional belief that being a royal really did make her a “princess,” you know like the ones we would read about in fairy tales. She would get her prince, the castle, the servants, the travel, the money, the jewelry and all the things she never got from Hollywood. But that’s not how royalty works. Yes, she had her prince, but her castle was a cottage, her servants were employees who tattled when she got too mean, the travel was fun but she had to work for it and they didn’t pay her by the crowd size or hand shake, she didn’t get any of the Queen’s jewelry and the diamonds gifted to her were later revealed to be blood diamonds, and, most importantly, the money was not endless but minimal. She also wasn’t welcomed in as the visionary she believed that she was, there to bring the monarchy into the 21st century under her vision and leadership. Instead, she was very publicly and privately relegated to sixth place, her husband’s place in the line-of-succession when they married. No matter how much “work” she did or how popular she believed she was, The Queen, Prince (now King) Charles, The Duchess of Cornwall (now Queen Camilla) and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (now Prince and Princess of Wales) always came first. So she wanted to game the system, put one over on the royals by initiating Megxit, thinking that the royal family would see her threat and bend to her wishes. But instead, they called her bluff. She could no longer be a working royal, so she finally had the chance to take Harry to Hollywood to try for the upteenth time to make it in the entertainment industry. But alas, she’s been called a “grifter,” lazy, talentless and potentially lost herself and her family millions upon millions of dollars. As it turns out, a title didn’t provide Meghan with the talent she always lacked. There’s a reason she was never a great success in Hollywood. So now, she’s back to being an influencer, merching products yet again hoping for a payout. From an influencer/actress to a literal royal Duchess and then back into a influencer/wannabe producer. It’s one of the most spectacular social climbing downfalls in modern history.
