In the Midrash, credit goes to the task finisher.
Moses started carrying Joseph's bones, Israel finished the job, and the mitzvah is named for Israel.
Rabbi Levi said in the name of Rabbi Ḥama bar Ḥanina: Anyone who begins a mitzva but does not complete it, and another comes and completes it, it is attributed to the one who completed it. How so? Moses began the mitzva, as he took Joseph’s bones with him. From where is it derived? It is as it is stated: “Moses took Joseph’s bones with him…” (Exodus 13:19). But because he did not take them into the Land of Israel, it is attributed to Israel, who buried him, as it is stated: “The bones of Joseph that the children of Israel took up from Egypt, they buried in Shekhem” (Joshua 24:32). (Devarim Rabbah 8:4)

When a lot of people get on a elevator and it has to make 8 stops someone is bound to say: "Looks like we got the local!"
This isn't so much a joke as much as a way to express: "I'm annoyed to have to make all these stops, but that's just the nature of elevators"
This is not a post about elevators.

Crazy how much of our modern world is held by someone answering “yes” when asked “can you do this” then having to actually figure out how to do the thing
Being born is so brutal because it no longer becomes about potential. You *are* now. There's no more ambiguity. Samsara it is. There's nobody else to blame, no programed steps through the Eightfold Path. At birth, it becomes all up to you.

people turn this into a thing to fight about, but i actually think it's so interesting to just examine curiously. I vividly remember life before having kids, and I remember I didn't feel like I had a lot of free time. "you don't understand" does come across as condescending...

If you are very smart and you operate as though execution vs. ideas are distinct phases, you might still get good at execution or good at ideas, but you will never get great at either.
Greatness requires a visceral understanding that execution and ideas are one thing, not two.
This but for everything
The speed at which a product is developed doesn't inherently make the product better or worse. The number of commits doesn't make the product better or worse. The number of people or agents working on it doesn't make it better or worse. The number of hours you’re pouring into it doesn’t make it better or worse. Working on a weekend, or late into the evening, doesn’t make it better or worse. Talking about these things sounds like it’s talking about the product, but it’s not talking about the product.
Those are all development metrics and styles of work. They don't speak to the product itself. They're all back of the house. Important to those making the work, but not inherently important to the people using the work.
Development metrics and style say nothing about fit. They say nothing about quality. They say nothing about clarity. They say nothing about usability. They say nothing about utility. They say nothing about performance. They say nothing about how customers feel when they use your product.
It's like reviewing a restaurant by talking about how many cooks were in the kitchen, how long the shift lasted, how many orders they fired, or how late they stayed cleaning up. None of that tells you about the meal, the product, the customer’s experience.
Mistaking making for the thing you've made is like confusing the kitchen for the meal or the blueprint for the building. They're connected, but they're not the same thing. One of them matters a whole lot more than the other.
Judgment is a feeling, not an analytical process;
It's the Intuition that comes from experience combined with human biology;
It's not evident to me that AI can replicate it;
It's perhaps more important than the Expontialists give it credit for;

I think the fact that I'm now comfortable just blindly closing a browser without any regard for the *dozens* and *dozens* of open tabs is the greatest sign of my personal growth over the years.
Happy Birthday @AsgeirMusic
Amazing show in NYC last night. Come back soon!
