Former President Ramon Magsaysay was born on August 31, 1907.
Magsaysay served one of the shortest presidencies in Philippine history, leading the country for just three years before he died in a plane crash in Cebu in 1957.
He pioneered the use of campaign jingles in Philippine elections, and the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award was later established in his honor.
