Our @wildlifebcn moth surveys taking place this week are also producing some fantastic results at @greatfen. It's yet another year when we have recorded the Clifden Nonpareil (blue underwing); not one but two!

@greatfen. Two Clifden Nonpareils (Blue Underwings), are amazingly camouflaged against this tree bark.

A few highlights from Moth Trapping this weekend at home…
Star of the show was the Burnished Brass shimmering in the sunlight!
16 species… 47 moths
Over the last two weeks I’ve been helping with the Water Vole surveys @wildlifebcn @greatfen.
It’s been quite challenging, but lots of fun! I’ll share a serious post about it soon, but you might like these funny videos of my surveys!

Dragons abound at the @GreatFen! It's fantastic to record yet another site at the Fen for the newly arrived #SouthernMigrantHawker #dragonfly. This stunning blue male #insect is one of those #colonising the #reedbeds at the #Fen.

Nice to have a regular stream of #moth records coming in locally, thanks to my eagle-eyed young neighbours out #caterpillar hunting again. This time, it was an early stage #ElephantHawkMoth.
August means @BCT_NBMP Waterway Surveys… join me on my survey of the river at Titchmarsh Nature Reserve.
The survey is monitoring Daubentons Bats and I’ll be back to do the follow up survey at the end of the month! 🦇

Great to have a little surprise in the #moth trap this morning. The scarlet underwings of this #JerseyTiger were great to see as it flew off afterwards.

Driving home after BirdFair 2023 I sleepily asked Mum and Dad when I could give a talk at BirdFair. Not happy with their answer of a few more years, yesterday I gave a talk on Citizen Science in the Youth Hub.
Thank you to everyone who came!!

The #river #GreatOuse is in great form this #summer, with #dragonflies in abundance; from #Emperors laying eggs and #NorfolkHawkers on the prowl, to #BandedDemoiselles on the wing and #RedEyedDamselflies on the lily pads. Look out for #FloweringRush and young #GreatCrestedGrebes.
Catch up post from my Summer Solstice Moth trap at home!
Three species of Hawkmoths and some new moths.
Recorded 130 individuals - 44 moth species and 4 others (including a Cockchafer)
