¡Buenos días! 👀
#M5Stack
I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude. There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

¡Quack developer 👋🏻!

Replying to @erincon

My current loop (It changes every week or so)
1. Run the app. Discover issues. Have an agent diagnose and add issues to issues.md.
2. Have agent fix issues.md.
3. Have agent audit the fixes.
4. Have agent repair what it did wrong.
5. Go to 1.
Or something roughly like that.

If your code sucks, your agent will too.
So, software fundamentals matter more than ever.
That's why I'm interviewing @unclebobmartin this Wednesday, live on YouTube.

I've been working on an orchestration harness for a squad of agents. I want to have a squad leader agent that supervises a bevy of workers. The workers are analysts, reviewers, gherkin authors, QA authors, implementers, cleaners, code reviewers, hardeners, QA testers, architects, and senior implementers.
There is a fixed workflow from themes to stories to gherkin and QA, to code, unit tests, and acceptance tests, to cleaned code, to hardened code, to QA'd code, to architecture.
This fixed workflow can be described by a static FSM. So I had my agents build it. Then I had my agents build a simulator of my squad and drive the simulator through the FSM. Then I had them jitter the simulator, simulating delays and failures. I had them run monte-carlo testing for many runs.
The agents never would have thought of that kind of testing regime. They never would have build the simulator on their own and engaged in monte-carlo testing.
Don't tell me software engineering is dead.

#Kubernetes #DockerDesktop #DevOps

TDD is a human discipline. I don't expect agents to follow it. I DO expect agents to write unit tests as carefully and comprehensively as a human would, and I ensure that by running coverage, crap, and mutation tests.
The reason agents don't have to follow the tight human TDD loop is that they have better and bigger short term memories.

People keep on telling me that my message about AI is undercutting my own books. Those people do not understand how agents work and who actually controls them. You can't tell an agent to be clean. You have to measure the cleanliness that they produce and have them correct failures of cleanliness.
Without such constraints agents are more than happy to build big balls of mud that they can't maintain.
