I’ve got a theory about the new Fight Night game that EA just announced.
What if Fight Night and Undisputed 2 are actually the same game?
Think about it, Undisputed already has a massive roster of licensed boxers, the licensing agreements are in place and there’s reportedly a sequel being worked on.
What if EA have partnered up with Steel City Interactive to develop Undisputed 2 together, but release it under the Fight Night name?
EA would bring the funding, resources, experience and the Fight Night brand, while Undisputed already has the foundations of a boxing game built alongside all those licensed fighters.
It would save EA years of having to build a completely new boxing game from scratch.
I’m not saying this is happening, but from a business perspective it actually makes a lot of sense.
Imagine if the new Fight Night we’ve all been waiting for is actually Undisputed 2 rebranded with EA behind it.
Just a theory, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
Codemasters were originally developing DiRT Rally 3.0 before EA acquired the studio. That same project eventually became EA Sports WRC, which the developers themselves confirmed.
Now, I don’t think EA are going to acquire Steel City Interactive, but what if they’ve agreed to collaborate on Undisputed 2 and release it under the Fight Night name?
Steel City already have the boxing licences, developers and foundations in place, while EA bring the funding, resources and Fight Night brand.
Obviously the WRC situation involved an acquisition, but it shows EA are willing to take an existing game in development and turn it into something bigger under a different brand.
A collaboration between EA and Steel City could potentially benefit both companies without either needing to be acquired.
I’m definitely going insane sorry.
From a business perspective, I think it would be a huge risk for EA to enter the boxing market and simply bank on the fact that their game will be better than Undisputed 2.
As much as I’d love to see both games compete, there’s no guarantee EA will come out on top, especially when Steel City already have years of development experience and established boxing licences behind them.
So the question is, are EA really willing to take that risk and step into the ring against Undisputed 2, or would they rather take the safer approach and collaborate with Steel City?
Ok I’m going bed it’s 2am here🤣
