When a car goes 25 mph nobody cares. That’s what it was designed to do. When a human being runs 25 mph, it’s an accomplishment because a HUMAN BEING achieved it. Nobody gives a shit if a machine spits out the code, art, and animations and creates a game. The reason games are successful comes from people experiencing the developer’s own vision. It’s not just about the product and the profit, it’s about seeing people’s ideas come to life through their own work. Here’s a hard-to-swallow pill for people who support AI: Having dreams and ideas is not actually impressive, everybody has them. It’s putting in the effort yourself to make them happen that makes it impressive, and if you think people will still appreciate that when you used an AI to do the hard work for you then you clearly don’t know what it means to truly create.

How is the internet less private than in 2006, when the whole family shared one computer? Back then, the internet was weird, personal, and all of ours. So, we got your favorite meme legends back together to say it louder: What happened to the internet? 1/3

I do not care how cringe people think this is, They are right. The internet used to be fun and it belonged to all of us. And it still can be if we fight for it.

Eiji Aonuma with his Order of Arts and Letters medal that he received in France! For almost his entire professional career he has worked on Zelda games. The Zelda series is as well regarded now as it was 25+ years ago, in part, due to his leadership. ndw.jp/nintendo-report-26102…

Idgaf about piracy and datamining but I think it is disappointing that now we are gonna have to go through the same things where games are dumped 2 weeks before launch and people spoil everything
[Switch 2] 🧵 A powerful exploit for the Switch 2 OS was revealed, opening the door to dumping and modding games. The current exploit chain compromises the SmileBASIC game, and then uses this initial foothold to escape SmileBASIC and compromise the OS at the userland level.

I swear we NEED to actually gatekeep non-artists from sharing their dogshit opinions on art more often. It's NOT $15k for a minute OF WORK, it's $15k for a minute of ANIMATION, which assuming it's 12 FPS is 720 drawings, each drawing being $20 which is fucking abysmally low.
i promise you, your work is not worth $15,000/min or $900,000/hr

Miyamoto discusses what the Order of Culture award means to him: "I feel quite embarrassed, to be honest, but I am truly honored to have been chosen for such a prestigious award. As I often say, I do not create games all by myself. This award is the result of the work I have done alongside many others, and I accept it as a representative of that entire team. Lately, in particular, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with people from fields beyond just video games—such as on "Super Nintendo World" at Universal Studios Japan and various film-related projects. I would like to share the joy of this award with all of them. Recently, there have been several milestones, such as the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, and I myself have often mentioned that it has been 45 years since I began making games. However, when I really think about it—having joined Nintendo in 1977 and immediately becoming involved in game development—it has actually been 50 years. Since "50 years" is a nice, round number, I’ll use that figure today. Fifty years ago, I began working in a medium called "games"—a medium whose very nature was, at the time, not even clearly defined. I have been able to continue this work ever since. I believe I am receiving this recognition precisely because I was there from the very dawn of the industry, and I feel that I have led a very lucky life." it feels so good seeing someone as well respected and famous as miyamoto take a stand against gen ai
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the acclaimed designer behind Super Mario and Zelda, has explained why he believes generative AI won’t make human creativity obsolete. "There will always be a role left for us to play." videogameschronicle.com/news…
