The issue with Old Islamicate cultures is they don’t really think of systematic issues like strong financial regulation and contract law as part of Islam. These things are Islamic but are meant to be administered by a strong state not the individual so it slips their mind.

Trads wax lyrical about how Old Islamicate cultures are a spiritual safeguard, absent which the path to degeneracy is inevitable. But these same Old Islamicate cultures have zero safeguards against moral degeneracies like siblings usurping rightful inheritances, the heinousness of which brings God’s wrath upon that society. I would much prefer a cultural trade off where God’s wrath is not incurred for usurping the rights of others.
