I think one less discussed consequence of this is that ppl w/ less money have to justify their absence from important moments in other ppl's lives bc financial constraints are experienced as relational failures. So inequality shapes who is perceived as a good friend/family member

Kate Berlant says getting off her phone made her feel intimate with her own life again.
“I was doing days with no phone, and suddenly it’s 1904 and I’m a novelist.”
She says going without scrolling brought back forgotten memories.
“When you go off your phone, you start having childhood memories. I’m driving, and suddenly I’m back in the kitchen, I’m 10 years old, and my father comes in. It’s unbelievable. My brain is like, ‘Thank you.’ It’s opening up and flooding me with images.”
She says constant scrolling makes you lose touch with yourself.
“You just start to think again. You become more intimate with your life. We can talk about the horror machine of this, but on a personal, psychological level, you’ve lost all intimacy with yourself. That’s the crisis.”
“Once you get a little bit of that intimacy back, you’re like, ‘Alright, now this is really medicinal.’”

If the state of dating is as bad as people say it is (it is), why are there so many dating experts/coaches, and why are they so bad at their jobs? They should be called date analysts; they can analyze why dating is so challenging but just regurgitate the same, tired, basic ish.
Katt Williams isn't waiting for Hollywood to change. He's building an alternative.
The comedian is developing Kemet Movie Works in Anniston, Alabama, with plans to create more opportunities for Black filmmakers, musicians, and storytellers. Inspired in part by Tyler Perry's studio model, the venture aims to expand creative freedom while opening doors for the next generation through a partnership with HBCU Miles College.
From calling out the industry to investing in a different future for it, Williams is making a case for what ownership can look like.
