‘Dead Man Walking’: How Yahya Sinwar deceived Israel for decades.
The Hebrew-speaking Hamas leader in Gaza is the man Israel holds most responsible for the October 7 attacks. My profile of Abu Ibrahim, aka 'The Butcher of Khan Younis' for @FT

Ahead of tomorrow's Israeli election, I went in search of an answer as to how Benjamin Netanyahu is even still in this - despite everything that has happened the last 4 years. My dispatch from Sderot, the southern Israeli city hard hit on Oct 7, which is still voting Bibi. @FT ft.com/content/470fbc3a-fd2e…

Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.
Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise.
Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers.
Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.
Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

The Israeli prime minister, keen to re-launch attacks against Iran, had this month instructed his military to plan for a major new offensive. But the mission failed to go ahead since President Donald Trump ruled out a strike before the US midterm elections ft.trib.al/Gbtlxui

"The Israeli military had prepared for a multi-day bombing campaign [vs Iran] to take place on the weekend of Oct 10 that would have targeted civilian infrastructure such as electricity plants, as well as nuclear facilities and regime targets." @NeriZilber

💥Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing to resume strikes against Iran. The Israeli military made plans for an extensive operation earlier this month, but held off when Donald Trump ruled out an attack before US midterm elections. Very timely from @NeriZilber. ft.com/content/eb4d1101-45ed…
Exclusive: Bibi Netanyahu nearly initiated a major new offensive against Iran earlier this month, wide-scale airstrikes including on civilian infrastructure. It was only stopped after Trump failed to give a green light. But chances are high still for a joint US-Israel attack in the coming weeks. My story @FT ft.com/content/eb4d1101-45ed…
