Jill, the party is led by a guy that quotes George Wallace to praise Israel and another who uses his imaginary friends as an excuse to not give people healthcare. They’re going to disappoint people because that’s what they do. Do you want power or just to endlessly praise it?
When you don’t want power or the ability to change anything, but you do really want to be able to complain.

My favorite current work on ideology boundary2.org/2024/05/willia…
The best survey of Ideology (including what ideology meant to M&E) is provided in this book. There's also a shorter essay by Rehmamn in Historical-critical dictionary of Marxism (vol 1, ch 29)

This is such a powerful line of dullard thinking, it's like a guy who thinks when psychoanalysts talk about objects they literally mean fun knick-knacks or when marx talks about material he means steel

When you are doing a labor organizing campaign, you have to convince people. When you're canvassing, running comms, the goal is to convince and organize people. Persuasion is one of our greatest tools as socialists

finally finished freud's introductory lectures on psychoanalysis! Liked this bit in the second to last lecture on psychoanalysis as essentially an emotional "after-education", feels like it starts to bridge the clinical and overall social problem well

These Social Democracy revivalists will name drop Gramsci but If you ask them to apply his pessimism of the intellect to their own projects they will start throwing a hissy fit and calling you a loser. Like I've watched neo socdem movements crash & burn all throughout the 2010s
They’re calling it “loser Leninism.” A self appointed vanguard whose aim is to convince working people good things aren’t possible, and workers are incapable of wielding power to force their representatives to serve their interests.

I’d like to point learning from Soviet socialism doesn’t mean reading a Paresh Chattopadhyay book on commodity production and thinking you know everything you know who you are
The Soviet Union was a product of a specific time and place and its never coming back. Still, socialist power had once extended across one-sixth of the world, a time when the capitalist world actually feared the threat of communism. We have much to learn from Soviet socialism

So thankful and blessed that the DSA-right factions who’ve openly threatened to split DSA saved the org from imploding by one vote yet again. They do it all out of the goodness of their own hearts and we owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude.

Lack of consciousness doesn't make it less dangerous, to be clear. But it's gonna make it much more embarrassing when the extent of the damage reveals itself. Perhaps Anthropic want Claude to be sentient because it'd be more embarrassing if society got totalled by a tag cloud
