Is God a feminine being, as both God and woman create life? Does God answer feminine prayer or masculine violence? If three religions are praying, whom does God serve?

I finally saw Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother today (with Q&A feat. Bassam Tariq and Mahershala Ali). I was already sold by its novel plot: A widowed Muslim hitman trying to balance faith and family on one side with his “job” on the other. But the film itself was tremendous. Religion has always been a big blindspot in Hollywood, which often reduces it (along with religious people) to one-dimensional caricatures. Bassam’s writing made religion and faith three-dimensional, bringing out all the tensions and complexities that come with trying to balance our commitment to our higher, often abstract ideals, with the concrete realities of real life. That’s the part that made it relatable, even if most of us aren’t assassins (lol).

“Sinners” cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has made Oscar history as the first woman of color nominated in that category.
In the history of the category, no woman has ever won the Oscar for cinematography, and only three women have ever been nominated: Rachel Morrison in 2018 for “Mudbound,” Ari Wegner in 2021 for “The Power of the Dog” and Mandy Walker in 2022 for “Elvis.”
