The greatest honour of my life and one I NEVER EXPECTED 🔥💙 Promoting the @Paralympics and the athletes who help make the movement such a powerful vehicle for societal change, is something I’ve been incredibly passionate about throughout my career. Back in 2010, when I covered my first Winter Paralympic Games, I was the cameraman for @BBCBreakfast's @mikebreakfast as he ran with the torch through the streets of Vancouver. I remember thinking ‘wow, that is incredibly cool, I could only dream of….’ So, 16 years on, to have the opportunity to be one of just 501 Torchbearers from around the world to carry the Paralympic Flame, on its journey from Stoke Mandeville to Verona for the Opening Ceremony, was amazing. There are thousands, if not millions of people who deserved this honour ahead of me, but it was an experience and memory which will stay with me for the rest of my life 💚🤍❤️ A HUGE GOOD LUCK too all of those competing in, or working on, the @milanocortina26 Paralympic Winter Games over the coming week 🙏

In 100% agreement. The arrogance of some event organisers, only trying to trade on your name & reputation, and sell more tickets - but then think they are doing you a massive favour by letting you pay to speak- hello?
Occasionally, I am invited to speak at sports law, or other industry events, only to be told that securing a speaking slot requires paying some form of sponsorship fee to the organiser. I don’t know what other practitioners do, but my response is always the same: no. In fact, I probably would not even attend such events as a delegate. My objection is simple. If speaking slots are effectively for sale, the programme risks being determined by who is prepared to pay rather than who has something interesting, informed or worthwhile to say. That undermines the credibility of the event itself. It also raises questions about what delegates are actually paying to hear. Are they listening to speakers selected for their expertise, or to those who have paid for access to an audience? I appreciate that organising conferences costs money, that sponsorship is a legitimate part of the industry, and that there is a growing commercial market for such events. But there is an important difference between sponsoring a conference and buying the opportunity to address its audience. My own policy is straightforward: I will never pay to speak. If you see me speaking at an event, it will be because the organisers have invited me for what I might have to say, not for what I might be prepared to pay. I’d encourage other practitioners to take the same approach. #sportslaw

A statement on yesterday….. Everything I said in that interview was true. However, rest assured I’m doing my best to turn things round. I have been in a mental health clinic for the last 10 weeks, finally discharging so I could attempt to play in Belfast I owed that to my family, in particular my daughter to see me play for what could be the last time….. I also owed it to the fans who have supported me throughout my 21 years on tour I also owed that to World Snooker who have been amazing from day on in all this, in particular Simon Brownell and Neil Tomkins who have remained in touch regularly, even Simon paying me a visit in the clinic itself I’m not ok, but I’m ok in that itself. I’ve been much worse in the last few months than you saw yesterday. I literally didn’t see a future in anything….. My daughter kept me going, the therapists, staff and all the other patients were amazing and helped me through some really dark days I see the light now that I couldn’t see before but I do now. I also know it won’t happen overnight. I’m a work in progress!!! My fight and determination on the table has always been there for ones to see. I need to show those same fighting qualities off it now for a while Please don’t detract anything from Jordan yesterday, he’s been aware of my struggles and that can’t have been easy to play in but he handled it with grace and skill as I knew he would. Im proud to call him a friend I hope the rest of the event is a success and I will continue my treatments going forward and then see what’s ahead Thank you to every single message I have received on here, instagram, Facebook, text messages and WhatsApp’s, I’ve seen them all but a bit overwhelmed to reply right now. Just know that they have helped me a lot but I’m not going anywhere just yet!!!! I have so much to live for and this is only the beginning of my new journey Also, I was not made to do any interviews, I was simply given a choice and felt I owed it to everyone to speak. The media team at WST have been incredible through all this too Thank you all x

It was feared the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games would be awful. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗪𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘! It’s 10 years since the opening morning & it still sticks in my mind as one of the most memorable moments from my career. While the build-up to the Olympics was dominated by fears around pollution, venue preparedness, the Zika virus and financial scandals; poor ticket sales were a major talking point ahead of the Paralympics. On that first morning, I was sent to report for 5 Live from the Paralympic Park entrance, with the simple brief; ‘𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒇 𝒂𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒘𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉’. It sounds pretty negative, but based on all the pre-Games speculation, there was a genuine belief hardly anyone would show. What played out could not have been further from the truth. 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗦 turned up in full party mode and would continue to do so throughout what was a true celebration of sport. There were so many incredible iconic medal-winning moments I was fortunate enough to witness at those Games, but the sense of fear turning to relief and then the genuine excitement I felt as people piled into the park, which is still one of the most striking memories I have - despite having now been associated with 10 Paralympics 💙

"𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒇 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑶𝒍𝒚𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒄 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒐𝒏 & 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒚 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎." 10 years from ‘that’ iconic Lutalo Muhammad interview 👀. His tear jerking response to that agonising loss in the Rio 2016 final probably gave people a greater sense of what an Olympic gold medal means, than a clip with any victor. While reacting, as an interviewer to extreme emotions in the moments post-competition is a genuine skill (and you often effectively have to act as a psychologist, critic and friend simultaneously), this moment effectively emphasised the importance of SHUTTING UP to ensure someone opened up. I had built a relationship with Lutalo in the years leading up to those Games, but you never know whether that will have any impact in those moments. On the day I still didn’t know if that time we’d spent together played any role in his decision to stop and speak just moments after one of the toughest moments of his life. Although Lutalo and I chatted many times post Rio, it wasn’t until about six years later when we were brought together by Tim Lawler MBE & @TeamSportsAid that we were both able to tell our respective sides and it’s something I’m incredibly proud of to this day 💙

Four years and genuinely countless rejections later, it was great to finally be able to convince Kristof to have a little chat about his journey. There's a lot going on here, but in simple terms, it's nice to see he's happy. Still a formidable force & frightening to think what he might be capable of next year at the Worlds in home waters, when he's back in full consistent training once more.
