This is a Tesla model Y battery. It takes up all of the space under the passenger compartment of the car. To manufacture it you need:
--12 tons of rock for Lithium (can also be extracted from sea water)
-- 5 tons of cobalt minerals (Most cobalt is made as a byproduct of processing copper and nickel ores. It is the most difficult and expensive material to obtain for a battery.)
-- 3 tons nickel ore
-- 12 tons of copper ore
You must move 250 tons of soil to obtain:
-- 26.5 pounds of Lithium
-- 30 pounds of nickel
-- 48.5 pounds of manganese
-- 15 pounds of cobalt
To manufacture the battery also requires:
-- 441 pounds of aluminum, steel and/or plastic
-- 112 pounds of graphite
The Caterpillar 994A is used to move the earth to obtain the minerals needed for this battery. The Caterpillar consumes 264 gallons of diesel in 12 hours.
The bulk of necessary minerals for manufacturing the batteries come from China or Africa. Much of the labor in Africa is done by children. When you buy an electric car, China profits most.
The 2021 Tesla Model Y OEM battery (the cheapest Tesla battery) is currently for sale on the Internet for $4,999 not including shipping or installation. The battery weighs 1,000 pounds (you can imagine the shipping cost). The cost of Tesla batteries are:
Model 3 -- $14,000+ (Car MSRP $38,990)
Model Y -- $5,000–$5,500 (Car MSRP $47,740)
Model S -- $13,000–$20,000 (Car MSRP $74,990)
Model X -- $13,000+ (Car MSRP $79,990)
It takes 7 years for an electric car to reach net-zero CO2. The life expectancy of the battery is 10 years (average). Only in the last 3 years do you start to reduce your carbon footprint, but then the batteries must be replaced and you lose all gains made.
And finally, my new friend, Michael, made some excellent points: I forgot to mention the amount of energy required to process the raw materials and the amount of energy used to haul these batteries to the U.S. sometimes back and forth a couple of times.
But by all means, get an electric car. Just don't sell me on how awesome you are for the environment. Or for human rights.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) admits average car insurance costs have risen by 34%, even though the amount they paid out for motor claims rose by only 18%.
By contrast, car premiums over the same period rose by just 6% in Italy, 5% in Spain & 2% in France. Why?

I love the perceived negative connotation behind the phrase; “rat running”
You mean driving down a publicly accessible street or road?

Genius idea. Just think, you could make that engine smaller, put it in the car and get it to drive the wheels directly. That would reduce efficiency loses.
I'm off to patent my idea.

🇷🇺 RUSSIA'S "INVISIBLE INK" VOTING SCANDAL
Russia's "elections" over the next three days come with a twist: reports and videos show mysterious pens at polling stations filled with ink that DISAPPEARS.
This isn't the first time - a similar incident was reported in 2021.
Kremlin (likely): What? Doesn't everyone love a little magic?

🇷🇺 PUTIN'S ELECTION PROMISE: YOU CAN VOTE FOR ANYONE... AS LONG AS IT'S ME
Putin vows that Russian elections will be fair, urging citizens to vote for a prosperous future.
“Dear citizens of Russia, dear friends — tomorrow, on March 15th polling stations will open all across our big country. The 3-day election will begin, to choose the President of Russia.
They take place in Russia for the 8th time, which shows the stability of one of the principles of a democratic state. Regularity of elections, their results, will directly affect the country’s development in the coming years.
It’s an extremely important event. That’s why, as the acting Head of the State, I find it necessary to address you today. I stress that the only source of power in our country is its people — it’s a key legal statute that is written in the Constitution.
Its main purpose is that only you, the citizens of Russia, decide the destiny of the Fatherland. You will have to not just give your vote, but firmly declare your will and goals about your personal participation in the destiny of Russia because the elections are a step into the future.
I’m convinced that you understand what a difficult period our country is going through now, what complicated challenges we are facing practically in all spheres and to continue to respond to them with dignity, to successfully overcome difficulties, we need to continue to be united and confident in ourselves.
We have already proven that we know how to be united defending freedom, sovereignty and safety of Russia, defending our values, traditions history and culture. Acting based on what we know is right and true and just we have our own view on how and what country to build, what plans to bring to life and today it’s extremely important to stay on this path to fulfill our plans to reach the big goals we have set, that’s why a lot depends on you in these coming days, depends on each one of you. I will say it straightforwardly voting is showing your patriotism.
The people of Donbass and Novorossiya understand it well when they voted in the most difficult circumstances during the referendums to unite with Russia and during these coming days they will make their choice too. Our fighters at the front will vote too. They, showing bravery and courage, defend the Fatherland and by taking part in the elections, show us all an example.
We need to confirm our unity, the reserve to go forward together, your every vote is valuable. That’s why I call on you to use your right to vote during these 3 days. Our country is big and everywhere, in each city and village there will be a polling station. Dear friends, together we are the multinational people of Russia, one big family. We are concerned, we worry and we care out our Motherland. We want it to prosper, to be strong and free and successful. We want the quality of life to grow. It will happen, we will make it happen the way we want it. That’s why I’m asking you to come and show your civil and patriotic position and vote for the candidate of your choice for a successful future of our beloved Russia.
Thank you.”
