Transport Minister Salvini thought he'd solved the truck drivers' strike in southern Italy yesterday but it is continuing. Today both he and Agriculture Minister Lollobrigida suggest that there are criminal infiltrators in the protest movement. Of course. Southerners= criminals.

Truck drivers' strike continues in southern Italy with effects spreading. Airports in Reggio Calabria and Crotone have no jet fuel, while supplies are severely limited in Bari, Naples, Palermo and Catania. The Italian government remains largely indifferent today.it/attualita/carburant…

After today's meetings with Salvini most groups have said they will continue blocking roads and ports for another week. There is almost no fuel left in Naples. Things could get out of hand for the government. Most of those protesting are part of Meloni's electorate.
Southern Italy is blocked by protesting truckers & farmers, supermarket shelves empty, fuel scarce, no waste collection. Salvini makes union reps travel to Milan. Can you imagine the reaction if a Sicilian Minister forced northern protestors to travel to Trapani for talks?

According to a study by ActionAid and the University of Bari the Italian government spent over €68k for each migrant expelled from the centre built in Albania. The cost per migrant expelled from a comparable centre in Italy is €16.5k lasicilia.it/news/cronaca/30…

As long as it is spacious and secure enough to host the inevitable maxi-trial for treason.

After Calabria & Sicily, protests by truckers & farmers over high fuel prices with road blocks & empty supermarket shelves spread around southern Italy. Salvini summons reps to Milan. He's too busy on Lega party business to even visit his Ministry desk. It's the south. Who cares.

Reading these new rules for pedestrians in Salvini's revision of Italy's Highway Code it looks like every time a car hits a pedestrian it is automatically going to be the pedestrian's fault.

Mayors of Messina & Reggio Calabria agree series of measures to better integrate the two cities on either side of Strait of Messina. Notably, the document does not mention Messina Strait bridge project at all. Even they don't believe it will ever be built. messinatoday.it/cronaca/area…

Two headlines from 'Repubblica' today showing how hopelessly divided and ambiguous both left and right are in Italy on support for Ukraine.

Meloni's government says it wants to help the middle class by cutting taxes on incomes between €50k and €60k. Here in the south at least, that sort of income makes you bloody rich. Middle class people can only dream of earning that much.
