not unconventional, but I used Tom Sizemore's death in Heat as reference for an animation in Halo 2 youtu.be/goh-ytMvjcw?t=461

Old School Bungie: I built the High Charity 3D asset for Halo 3, and my texture reference for its surface was a scone. At the bakery today my kid wanted one, and it took me back to '06, the last time I bought a scone. Ever used an unconventional reference in your work?

The media attacked rare optimistic souls like me declaring the exact same reassuring message years in advance. But now that it’s Miyamoto’s own words, notice how they don’t dare attacking. The price to be early I guess.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the acclaimed designer behind Super Mario and Zelda, has explained why he believes generative AI won’t make human creativity obsolete. "There will always be a role left for us to play." videogameschronicle.com/news…

Completely braindead take from someone that never worked in the industry. The modern left has destroyed so much of our culture and now that it's in shambles, they're trying to "blame the rich."
Gaming is dying. And it's because of shareholders, billionaires buying our fav companies out and corporate greed.

Chris Avellone comes in with the truth nuke against BioWare holy shit
I guess I can say it now - so when applicants would apply to the studio, the producer would go through their LinkedIn to see what posts they liked, and if he disagreed with their political/social Like, he'd advocate not to hire them based on their Like.

I've been calling out progressive rot the last 12 years. And I'm an old-school liberal, an old-school liberal with conservative friends. I spotted it a little ahead of most people because, as a writer, I witnessed the far-left gatekeepers begin to apply their DEI practices when deciding who was worthy of being published. This was before the rot made it into gaming. As someone who grew up turned off by some of the more judgmental Christians, it was easy for me to notice the same judgmental fervor from much the left. And if I dislike it from one direction, I'm not going to condone it from another just because we used to vote the same way. Pointing out the left's excesses got me labeled as "far-right." Friends thought I was extreme for even talking about it. Now almost all of them agree with me.
Chris Avellone is saying what many of us devs have know for years. Yes, political purity tests were happening. Yes, the modern left destroyed your favorite franchises and studios. Yes, the modern left were the authoritarian nazis the entire time.

Chris Avellone (Planescape, KOTOR 2, and Fallout: New Vegas) just dropped a MEGATON NUKE regarding BioWare's hiring practices... "...when applicants would apply to the studio, the producer would go through their LinkedIn to see what posts they liked, and if he disagreed with their political/social Like, he'd advocate not to hire them based on their Like." ITS TRUE. EVERYTHING WE'VE BEEN SAYING. ITS ALL TRUE. HOLY SHIT!

I believe the ideal game studio size for stability in the changing market will be somewhere around 4-12 core people, as long as those core people are hard working, highly creative, and truly reliable. This just depending on what you want to make, of course, as some things can be done solo and some things will take much larger team sizes. Something to the massive scale doesn't become implicitly possible just because the tools change so dramatically. I know for sure I would not enjoy working in an environment with more than a handful of other people. I hate bureaucracy more than anything and once you cross a certain size, something that would make an obnoxious amount of noise on a team call, things fall apart quickly.
Many things can be true at once when it comes to the closing of a studio. For example, the age of major game studios may be coming to an end. It wasn't long ago that magazines (tech and non-tech) employed thousands of well-paid journalists, illustrators, writers, etc. But that was disrupted by technology as now "everyone" can be a game or tech site. The same may be coming for game studios. That doesn't discount other factors that hasten economic non-viability. xitter.cf/HeyItsTippyXO/status/2…

omg people, Death Stranding is NOT a walking sim 🤦‍♂️ Walking sims are much more fun.
Hideo Kojima says people who have never played Death Stranding but call it "a walking simulator" are proof that social media can form hivemind narratives. He finds it "scary" that AI may one day shield people from being exposed to differing opinions. videogameschronicle.com/news…

The best way to ruin a company is to let woke bullies in the door. It's only a matter of time before they destroy everything you worked hard for. What a damn shame.

Add in a workstation with a port for my laptop, hook me up to Starlink, and set a destination for the mountains. I can't wait for this to be a reality.

Woke won't report like they would for Kojima/P.T. but the realization of what wasn't possible is what it's all about. In time when it resonates the way the closed studio never could - The story will tell itself :)
Yes! I'd love for modders to make some version of this idea, either in a single player or even multiplayer context:

I'd like to formally apologize to all gamers. This is all my fault. I'm so sorry 😔

You can cry and scream all you want about games sucking now, but you were at the helm at the beginning of the degradation of gaming. You caused this, you reap what you sow and you sowed this for decades. Gaming sucks now because of you.

All my in-laws in Japan LOVE Trump, so I think you need to put the koolaid down and actually travel the world and talk to people.
Trump is a disgusting president If you have any friends from countries outside the US, you'd know our president is not taken seriously

I get the sense that "wishlist velocity nearing launch" is wayyy more important that "total wishlists".
I saw a reddit post earlier by an indie dev that said his game had 14k wishlists at launch, but less than 300 sales after a week. Just curious, what's the main reason you would wishlist but not buy? I'm assuming price, but anything else?

Let me ask you a different question have you ever had an idea for a Halo multiplayer map that never made the cut that you haven't discussed publicly before? Maybe modders can help realize that idea
