🚨 NEXT SLOP FEST IS FRUSTRATING 🚨
Imagine getting ready for a Fest that gives you a one-time opportunity per game, making everything with love, 3d models, 2d art, programming, humor and so on, but you found out that you're just stepping in a swamp...The swamp which contains around 6,000 AI slop titles to ruin it for everyone - even for themselves.
Here’s what we think: AI-generated games have no soul, everyone feels it, and that emptiness is real.
What makes you love the game you’re creating is the JOURNEY. It’s the challenges you face and spend days or weeks trying to solve. It’s the conversations with a community that actually cares about what you’re building. It’s the feeling of putting something together, brick by brick, every single day. The process matters just as much as the result and this influx of slop makes it almost impossible for real creators to let their work shine.
AI "developers" have nothing to lose. They didn't spend months or years bleeding into a project.
Real developers DO!
Trying to get noticed under these circumstances is brutal. You’re left wondering if it’s just bad timing, bad luck, or something else entirely. But standing out in a sea of thousands of games is exhausting when you don't even know which page of the list you're getting lost on.
A word about Steam: They aren't shutting down the AI slop that's ruining a Fest meant to support creative people. We have around 8,000 demos in this Fest, and if I had to guess, 5,500 to 6,000 have an AI disclosure (There's ones that didn't disclose it at all, despite clearly being AI-generated)
That’s a $100 Steam Direct fee times 6,000 - roughly $600,000 in Valve's pocket. If they truly cared about games and the gaming industry, they’d figure something out. If they only care about money, they won't even bother adding a filter feature.
There's only one way to find out what Steam's next step will be, but we hope they choose to do the right thing -for the gaming industry, for developers, and for the players. ❤️🔥
