Emiliano Andrade-Covarrubias was found unresponsive in his cell at the GEO Group-run Rio Grande Processing Center in Laredo on Saturday. He’s the seventh person to die in ICE custody in Texas this year and the second in Laredo alone. Andrade-Covarrubias was legally in the United States on a green card.
His daughter says the family learned of his death from the county medical examiner rather than federal officials. She said her father, who had heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure, was denied his medications and ignored by medical staff when he complained of chest tightness and trouble breathing. The family has opened a GoFundMe for burial and funeral costs.

For a quarter-century, a border tribe has staved off plans for a wall on their land by allowing DHS to use it as a testing ground for border security.
But the Trump administration has cast off any pretense of cooperation with the Nation.

In July, I took a ride through the Arizona desert with Verlon Jose, chairman of the Tohono O’odham Nation, a sprawling reservation on the U.S.-Mexico border that may soon be changed forever.
It was the beginning of an investigation that ProPublica is publishing today.

The Forest Service closed roads near the border wall in an attempt to stop public oversight on Border wall construction and add another layer of policing against aid workers and environmentalists. They have closed these roads in the name of "public safety".azcentral.com/story/news/env…
“Colonial borders, barricades and police violence will not shake our obligation to these sacred places. We’ll continue to take care of this land. And the land will take care of us.” - Hon'mana Seukteoma, Tohono O’odham Land Defender
The NPS should have been protecting the land and people, not the border wall construction that nearly emptied the spring. Today, USFS should consider who they are protecting, in the name of "public safety". Shame on @forestservice
