Detroit is one of the music capitals of the world—the birthplace of Motown, techno and so much more. We are home to thousands of musicians who deserve fair compensation for their work. I introduced legislation to make sure streaming services are paying musicians properly.

Apparently the new Netflix show about Spotify uses our Justice at Spotify action as a storyline, and underlines the fact that Daniel Ek believes it’s not his responsibility to pay artists fairly. The show creates a fictitious future that shows the UMAW equivalent succeeding!

With the ongoing pandemic, artists are putting their lives at risk for booking nightmares and incurring thousands of dollars of tour debt. Santigold is correct. The struggles of touring are rarely ever spoken of. Hoping more big acts will take a stance.

That's right! Many of the people who fill our lives with joy and creativity are also struggling to get by, and that’s in large part because of how corporations have stacked the deck to enrich themselves at the expense of the people creating that art. rollingstone.com/music/music…

Musicians receive less than a penny per stream on average. So we are introducing a resolution that would create a new mandatory streaming royalty that would be paid directly to musicians. **This would not be possible, but for the courage of the @UMAW_.

This is the result of decades of right wing organizing and institution building at every level. They have understood the need to build power in Congress, courts, local communities, churches, etc. They keep winning unless we build our own institutional counter forces.
