Now you can't tell me I'm a man without a plan.
The LEE AND CALL series is set in the Bay Area of California, following the contentious friendship between a pub owner and the badman-with-a-heart who ripped him off.

Favorite #FilmNoir Comeuppance:
NIGHT OF THE HUNTER (1955). There’s something ridiculously satisfying about Robert Mitchum’s fraudulent bully squealing like a little girl as Lillian Gish unloads both barrels.

The Lady from Shanghai (1947). In Orson Welles’s world of beautiful liars, double-crosses, and deadly schemes, the final showdown delivers one of noir’s most delicious, visual, twisted reckonings.

I hope there is a positive correlation between how much a book kills you while you write it and how good it turns out to be when finished.

Blast of Silence (1961) is a crime classic. A bleak, low budget film noir about a professional hitman who returns to New York City over Christmas to assassinate a mobster. It may be the darkest, most nihilistic Christmas movie ever made. Highly recommended.

Jiri Kara Simulator is a real story boomer shooter set in post-communist Prague. Wake up in a dumpster, take down six district kingpins with bottles, a fire poker, a jar of pickles and Roman candles, and find your missing bride.

The Cormac McCarthy biography, so far, is just OK (6 chapters in). My favorite thing about it is reading about how much of a pain in the ass Cormac was to his publishing house in his early days, disappearing for months on end, etc. He’s lucky to have lived when he did.

Born on this day in 1943: one of my all time favorite writers, the great Sam Shepard.
I first found him through Dylan, reading Rolling Thunder Logbook. Then I couldn’t stop.

Rita and I thoroughly enjoyed @MEProctor3's The Way You Say My Name! Martine's Declan Shaw series is a fresh and fantastic take on the private investigator genre--fans of crime fiction will definitely want to check it out!

There is a mob show you can watch on Amazon Prime called Gravesend that has the pacing of Twin Peaks: The Return & is essentially The Sopranos if David Chase had brain damage and a budget of $15. It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen & I’m completely addicted to it

The sky was a few shades south of black, and there were no stars or moon to be seen in the haunted night. It was cold and wet—almost December. The street was empty except for some parked cars and a stray cat that waltzed away from the pub and disappeared into the shadows.
