With all of the dire news coming out of the world of podcasting, I realized that the industry needs to embrace fun and experimentation as a new way forward. This month on Podcast Canon: Richard's Famous Food Podcast. Jump into the brine. @richardsfamous @reechardparks

My latest for the Podcast Canon. I examine how a crazy good Batman podcast—with Jeffrey Wright voicing the Dark Knight and like half the cast of SNL in support—failed to break through. Give it a read, and a listen!

Really nice piece about THIS IS BRANCHBURG and a beyond flattering comparison to our biggest influence, Blue Jam
To understand Brendan O’Hare and Cory Snearowski's series, we need to look back at a cult BBC radio program from the late ’90s. avclub.com/podcast-canon-thi…

Slipping in under the wire with the latest entry into Podcast Canon over on @TheAVClub. This month I look at sketch comedy podcast This Is Branchburg and examine how it is related to obscure BBC comedy program from the late 90s.

Pod people! Please tell me about yr ⭐️NEW⭐️ podcasts launching in JANUARY, for poss review in my @FT pod column. I like unusual subjects & pods doing something interesting with the form. Less keen on wellness, self-help and "person interviews a different guest every week". TIA!🎧

Honestly, this is everything to me. The reason I've been wanting to cover podcasts with greater depth and sensitivity is that listeners can easily miss just how much passionate and creative work goes into them!
I think you're the first person that's ever highlighted the mixing @NotBenCannon! We've regularly got like 300 tracks of audio and sound design, vocals, programming, orchestra is all in the same session...mind boggling! Grateful to you!

Also really hope you can craft some space for single episodes of long running narrative shows like Snap Judgment and TAL! @chanajoffewalt's recent episode on exchange students from Gaza is the best audio documentary I've heard all year and it's a perfect standalone episode.

I'm so excited about this!! As a longtime AV Club reader and now someone who went from a consumer to a producer of narrative pods, I've been craving coverage like this for some of the best narrative shows for so long and George is a perfect start for this new podcast canon!

With the launch of Podcast Pantheon @TheAVClub, we look back at the launch of @serial and the decade of podcasting which blossomed in its afterglow. @GeorgeThePoet's incandescently original, sonically daring work was the perfect fit for the first entry. avclub.com/podcast-pantheon-…

I am incredibly excited to announce that I'm back in @TheAVClub writing about podcasts, after a four year hiatus. This time, it's to launch Podcast Pantheon, a monthly column where I'll be looking back at the past decade of shows and highlighting the medium's best and weirdest.

It's a long read. I start with podcasting's inflection point in 2014—the launch of Serial—and try to suss out why podcasts have such a small footprint in the world of cultural criticism in the decade since. But, sometimes you've got to be the change you want to see...

I absolutely loved Teri Garr, a wonderful actress— so sad to hear about her death. She also participated in the best, most scathing & most illuminating Random Roles Q&A ever: avclub.com/teri-garr-1798214…

We ran an article Friday about how the Trump campaign has made a habit of deceptively using quotes in its TV ads, cutting out words and taking stuff way out of context. Then the campaign released the most egregious example yet. Here's a thread on deceptive quotes in its new ad.
