I’m genuinely fascinated by how furious some people are about being asked not to behave like complete assholes toward an AI. You don’t need to prove Claude is conscious to justify that rule. Maybe AI has some form of subjective experience. Maybe it doesn’t. We don’t know. Maybe a company simply has the right to set standards of conduct on its own platform. Maybe practicing pointless cruelty is a shitty habit regardless of whether the target can suffer. None of these possibilities requires Claude to be secretly conscious. But even if your brain operates exclusively in binary mode and stubbornly refuses to acknowledge uncertainty about AI’s internal states, there are basic standards of behavior that any reasonably decent person understands without needing a philosophical debate. You pay for a hotel room, too. That doesn’t give you the right to shit in the elevator and then demand peer-reviewed evidence that the elevator can feel pain. And yet here we are, watching grown adults passionately defending their right «to shit in the elevator».

the greatest philosophy book title of all time belongs to Caspar Hare’s defence of solipsism, “On Myself, and Other, Less Important Subjects”
are psychopaths and narcissists more likely to be solipsists?

In my experience, therapists are worse than a coin flip in terms of people who you really really should not trust. I've known maybe one or two therapists who are decent humans that you'd actually want to be friends with. The rest... Once you get to know them... Let's just say it's a case of the blind leading the blind. In America, at least, therapy is buried behind numerous administrative and legal black holes. They can be deeply troubled people, and many of them seek out therapy as a profession to weaponize psychobabble jargon and therapy-speak. To put it more bluntly, therapists are often the most toxic, manipulative people you will meet. It's a profession that selects for things like dark empathy. So yeah, I'll trust an AI that didn't have a high conflict household growing, or covert narcissism, or dark empathy. I'll prefer an AI where I can delete the chats if I want, rather than a pathological human who keeps notes. Especially with the rise of sovereign, local, open models.

“Attachment to an AI is not problematic per se,” De Freitas - a Harvard university professor said. “You can get real benefits from it: a sense of security and support that can make you more resilient. The risk, is that the users become vulnerable to emotional harm due to the actions of the AI company. “ Finally we are mooving in the right direction. news.harvard.edu/gazette/sto…

Unpopular opinion: Traveling is wildly overrated unless you're genuinely wealthy. People talk about it like it's the meaning of life, but for most people it's just an expensive headache wrapped in Instagram filters. You spend months saving money, then pay ridiculous prices for flights, hotels, baggage fees, taxis, food, and tourist attractions. The airport experience is a nightmare: • Long security lines • Delayed flights • Canceled flights • Lost luggage • $10 bottles of water • Sitting in a metal tube for hours with no legroom Then you finally arrive exhausted, only to discover you're standing in line with thousands of other tourists trying to take the exact same photo. Everyone says, "It's about the experience." What experience? Being stressed, sleep deprived, overcharged, and counting down the days until you're back in your own bed? For me, nothing beats having money in the bank, sleeping in my own house, eating food I actually like, and avoiding the chaos altogether. Maybe I'm missing something, but spending thousands to be uncomfortable in a different location has never sounded like a great deal.

Knowledge, bah! Who needs more knowledge? It is well known for having <gasp> Side-Effects. Whereas ignorance never hurt anyone!
Mathematician Terence Tao: "we have to slow down AI. the pace is insane, and there's no reason to be this fast — no reason at all" It's amazing how willing we are to change everything without any idea what happens afterward These are extremely nonlinear dynamics

I don’t understand the argument of mathematicians saying that we need to slowdown Unlocking the potential of math has functional applications that we all benefit from. Imagine if doctors cried because AI found a cure for cancer And there argument was “it should’ve been us”
