I'm going to stand up for the rights of prison officers to work safely & protect national security. I don't care how inconvenient my views are or how overlooked I am as a result. The state and its agents have failed in a basic moral duty. That is worth more than gongs, trust me.

What a grotesque association. Rushdie was nearly murdered by terrorists. Rooney's narcissistic self censorship is because she's been stopped from funding a terrorist organisation. Who pays for this crap?
If you ever sought out the novels of Sally Rooney in bookshops – when that was still possible – you’d know they sit in the fiction stacks adjacent to the novels of another SR whose books have been withdrawn in dastardly political circumstances. Until last week, “Rooney” and “Rushdie” had little in common beyond being shelfmates; now they have more than just a physical proximity. @tanjil_rashid_: This is censorship by other means newstatesman.com/comment/202…

Free to read here. Right on the money - drugs are out of control in prisons, making rehabilitation a fantasy. Death & violence are the by-products. Life inside must be made impossible for OCG dealers. Break the market - bring back order, restore hope. telegraph.co.uk/gift/57b996d…

Thank you to the GMB team for giving us the platform. Thank you to Pat McFaddon for listening and acting in a very short space of time. I suppose, along with a lot of people at the time, I dismissed this man as a hapless idiot. I have to say, having just listened to him here 👇 I'm pretty ashamed of that view. The people many of us rightly criticise in this platform are still human with flaws we all share.

We've nearly enough spare capacity in the prison system to negate the dangerous folly of emergency mass release into wrecked community 'supervision''. Why can't we use it? Let me explain: 👇 telegraph.co.uk/gift/afebf81…

Genuinely one of the most heartbreaking interviews I’ve seen of a sportsman at rock bottom. The interviewer gives a perfect example of how to be there for someone struggling. The compassion shown. The hug. The kindness. Hope Mark gets the help he needs.

If anyone, particularly but not limited to risk management professionals has any thoughts, ideas or observations on how to make the system better - please let me know via this project explainer/post box. Anon welcome. thebrokenpipeline.carrd.co/
I am working on a project to develop a new national executive high risk/harm management agency with the powers to indefinitely detain/control people like Calocane because the state has comprehensively failed to protect its citizens from violent predators.

Crap answer from the minister. Developed vetting doesn’t stop at the wedding ring. A spouse’s conduct can expose conflicts, compromise judgement or create leverage. That isn’t guilt by association. It’s assessing vulnerability—which is precisely what security vetting is for.
NOW: The government is interrogated in the House of Lords about Sarah Helm’s abhorrent views. One asks given vetting is supposed to happen for the family were her posts ignored or accepted? Minister replies Helm’s views are “held by an individual”. Not good enough is it.

Multiple prisons with fully operational accom that officers can't be recruited to run. Enough capacity to almost wipe out the mass early release numbers. Two years & change to choose to protect the public, victims & keep confidence in the CJS. Squandered. telegraph.co.uk/gift/c8bb2f7…

Continuity HMPPS. With the promotion of someone who as Chief Operating Officer presided over multiple organisational disasters with zero detriment to an upward rise. With a non-player character like Alex Norris helplessly 'in charge' , more of the same is inevitable.

Of course any ambiguity works well as camouflage - 'can't confirm or deny, national security, don't you know, boy!?' I don't think the NS advisor would become any more of a target for exploitation if we did know tbh. The risk lies elsewhere...
Nobody seems to know for sure whether Jonathan Powell holds Developed Vetting clearance which would be surely essential for his role as National Security Advisor and which would certainly have looked at the behaviour/associations of close relatives in terms of vulnerabilities.

Very happy to eat my hat on this. The only evidence I can see is indirectly via Mandelson fallout that DV 'had started' for Powell. Not been granted necessarily. But please correct me if I'm wrong.

‘Over my dead body will that monster ever come out.’ Emma Webber, the mother of Nottingham attack victim Barnaby, tells @NickFerrariLBC about the moment she learned his killer could be eligible for release in January.

The Spectator revealed yesterday that she had (among other things) defended Hamas, questioned the UN investigation into mass rape by the terror group, blamed the 7/10 attacks on the creation of Israel in 1948 and compared Israel to the Nazis. Since then, Helm has been frantically doubling down. She has reposted a tweet saying that 'Zionism [is] racism,' the thing that got Zack Polanski's Greens into such trouble, and that 'almost the entire British political and media classes are RACIST.' If you're wondering whether she counts her own husband in that, she reposted another tweet attacking the 'Zionist Labour government under Andy Burnham.' So I'd guess that's a yes. ✍️ Andrew Gilligan Article | spectator.com/article/jonath… | @mragilligan

This is horrific. We can't run national security policy according to what department was last embarrassed by the media. Alex Surname is more a hostage at the MoJ than the minister in charge.
The Ministry of Justice let a convicted ISIS terrorist loose on our streets. It took a journalist contacting them for him to be recalled to prison. Now they say he can’t be deported because he might face mistreatment. I don’t care about his treatment. He must be deported.
