The tragedy of AI in schools is that people are once again being duped into believing that the panacea for learning must be something that removes the need for an abundance of great teachers as opposed to something that creates an abundance of great teachers. #AI #education

Henry beat his high score! He got a 3 in a row on every cave level but missed the one with fractions. Next time.. #Maths #Kids

Had a sort of a funny experience with OpenAI’s Deep Research tool, which I wanted to share since I think it reveals some of the tool’s strengths and weaknesses.

A video from @brainingcamp showing how to make y the subject using algebra tiles. This only works for simple cases but a nice visual introduction before/alongside the abstract.

Saturday is a no TV day but I let Henry play a bit of Opal anyway. Like most young kids, he's great with estimating large quantities but has to slow down when cardinality is required. Link: numbershapes.com/interactive…... #math #gamedev #edtech #kids #parenting

I’m with Gary Marcus in the slow timelines camp. I’m extremely skeptical that AI will be able to do everything that humans can do by the end of 2025
Some AGI-relevant predictions I made publicly long before o3 about what AI could not do by the end of 2025. Do you seriously think o3-enhanced AI will solve any of them in next 12.5 months?

Giving students the autonomy to attempt problems on their own should not be conflated with giving them the responsibility to learn on their own. The feedback cycle is necessary for learning and you cannot get feedback without trying. In my view, nobody is an independent learner in any pure sense. It's just that some people are able to run the prediction/feedback cycle independently. (e.g. researchers, gamers, compulsive Googlers)
